Artificial Intelligence

Its Uses, Future, Prospects and Dangers

SO WHAT EXACTLY IS AI?
WHAT IS AI?
● “Artificial intelligence (AI) is a wide-ranging branch of computer science
concerned with building smart machines capable of performing tasks that
typically require human intelligence.”

● Intelligence can be described as the ability to perceive or infer information, and

to retain it as knowledge to be applied towards adaptive behaviors within an
environment or context.
SOME EXAMPLES OF ARTIFICIAL
INTELLIGENCE USAGE
● Siri, Alexa and other smart assistants
● Conversation/Chat Bots
● YouTube/Netflix Recommendations
● Autocorrect
● Face Recognition
● Social Media Feeds
MYTH: AI AND COMPUTERS ARE THE SAME
THING
WHAT DISTINGUISHES AI
FROM COMPUTERS?
● Simply put, computers are basically calculators.
They receive and compute information and may
be programmed to output preset decisions on
certain inputs.

● AI on the other hand are expected to be able to

make decisions by themselves similar to humans
and exercise free will. (key word: expected)
TYPES OF AI
THE FOUR TYPES OF AI

● Reactive Machines

● Limited Memory AI

● Theory of Mind

● Self Aware AI
REACTIVE MACHINES
The simplest types of AI systems are reactive. They
can neither learn from experiences nor form memories.
Instead, reactive machines react to some inputs with
some output.
LIMITED MEMORY
Limited memory refers to an AI‘s ability to store previous data and use it to make
better predictions. In other words, these types of artificial intelligence can look
at the recent past to make immediate decisions for example self-driving cars.
THEORY OF MIND
● In Psychology, “theory of mind” refers to the ability to attribute mental state —
beliefs, intent, desires, emotion, knowledge — to oneself and others. It’s the
fundamental reason we can have social interactions.

● For example, you could yell angrily at Google Maps to take you in another
direction. It’ll neither show concern for your distress nor offer emotional
support.

● An AI system with Theory of Mind would understand that humans have

thoughts, feelings, and expectations for how to be treated. That way, it can
adjust its response accordingly.
SELF
AWARE
The final step of AI development is
to build self-aware machines — that
can form representations of
themselves. It’s an extension and
advancement of the Theory of Mind
AI.

A self-aware machine has human-

level consciousness, with the ability
to think, desire, and understand its
feelings. At the moment, these types
of artificial intelligence only exist in
movies and comic books. Self-aware
machines do not exist.
The Uses and
Applications of AI
A Brief Overview
A Virtual
Companion!
A chatbot or chatterbot is a software application used
to conduct an online chat conversation via text or text-
to-speech.

Examples include:

1. Cleverbot Evie (A chatbot used mainly for

entertainment).
2. Endurance AI (A chatbot which acts as a
companion for those suffering with Dementia).
3. Spot (An AI based support system which
allows users to report workplace harassment and
bullying).
Current Leaps in the Field
A variety of AI based software are also used in
video editing, ranging from basic film editing to
deepfake technology.
● Easing the editing process,finding
optimal angles, shots or transitions.
● In 2016, IBM Research made the first
ever “cognitive trailer” for the film Morgan.
● In 2021, deepfake technology was used
to recreate a younger version of actor Mark
Hamill in the show “The Mandalorian”.
Machine Learning! We do that too!
● Wordtune, (basically grammarly)

● Machine learning: Ever felt that you are being

watched while online? That’s how they know what
ads you like (AI)

● Programmers at OpenAI taught bots to play hide-

and-seek, with the bots developing smarter
solutions with each iteration and even breaking the
game!
nn
DANGERS OF AI
D
Human Impersonation:

● The act of intentionally copying

another person's characteristics,
such as their behavior, speech,
appearance, or expressions.

● Filmmaker, Jordan Peele created a

video that appeared to show former
U.S. President Barack Obama
saying things he never actually said,
to warn the public about the dangers
posed by these technologies
Unemployment
● AI is becoming a cause for
unemployment. Every day
there is a news of remarkable
feats achieved by computers or
robots which makes the value
of human being decrease.

● According to the World

Economic Forum's "The Future
of Jobs Report 2020", AI is
expected to replace 85 million
jobs worldwide by 2025.
Though that sounds scary!
Cyber Security
● The advancement in AI can also
benefit hackers as it enables them to
perform highly sophisticated and
large-scale cyberattacks

● Threat to sensitive, private and

confidential data.

● Data Corruption and Poisoning.

Warfare
● The inability to multi-task is its major drawback
which makes it vulnerable to implement it on every
stage.

● AI recognition systems don’t understand what the

image is, they simply learn textures and gradients of
the image’s pixels.

● This lack of understanding can result in

misclassifications that humans would not make, such
as identifying a boat on a lake as a fighting vehicle.
Ethics of AI Programs
The Ethics of ● Politics

AI Programs (it is already a dirty playing field but with AI…

dirt++; )

● Rights of AI

(will their views or feelings hold any value?)

● Privacy invasion (Eg Facebook)

● Manners of AI
(*_*)
○ yea...
● How much should AI be allowed to integrate into
society?
Don’t need no manners! ● Should they be allowed to own businesses or
property?
Spot the Difference!
Many people have expressed concern about
human impersonation in particular by AI
because this way fake ‘evidence’ can be
produced.

Lets not forget the immense danger AI pose if

they are given sufficiently real human-like
bodies that they could fool our eyes.

Such AI could easily be used for

assassinations.
More Ethiccs...
● What about bias?
In an experiment carried out by twitter, they released an AI chatbot,
Tay. They had to shut it down when it picked up hate comments
from around twitter and began to add more inflammatory remarks
aimed at various people.

● With so many ‘woke’ people starting to emerge from spawners

across the world, we are bound to encounter many who take
offence from the AI’s lack of manners or unwillingness to conform
to their ‘standards’. AI might not be subject to ‘useless’ emotions
and may reject opinions and ‘hurt’ people’s feelings.
● The debate about the improbability of human life

AI ever existing is a tiring and long lasting one

spanning hundreds of years and as such...AI
Is AI actually ● As Software engineers, we can confidently say

possible? that the future holds a lot of potential...But, the

exact potential of AI is uncertain and plagued by
A critical view problems.

on AI Stoopid ● For one thing, consciousness in AI will not be

possible.
hooman
Reason?
Anything that is dependent on something cannot function
without it.
For AI it is programming
Many arguments take form against the possibility of AI
eg;
● The chinese room argument,
● The theory of consciousness
and also…
AI won’t have a soul.
There is something fundamentally
different in a corpse than in a human…
A body can be repaired, the heart restarted...but once the soul is
gone...nothing will change.

Looking at AI from an Islamic perspective, they won’t ever be able to have

free will and/or consciousness because that ability hasn’t been given to
them by God.

(don’t cancel me 4 dis)

Well humans don’t need AI
we have VLADIMIR!

EMBRACE THE SLAV!
