Background of study
A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her
country because of persecution, war or violence. A refugee
has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race,
religion, nationality, political opinion or membership of a
particular group (UNHCR, 2006).
Nepal has a long tradition of providing asylum to refugees.
Currently, Nepal is home to 38,490 refugees officially
recognized by the
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR,
2018).
An official record of the Government of Nepal confirms that
12,540 Tibetans living in different parts of Nepal. The Tibetan
refugees living in Nepal are dispersed in over 21 districts of
the country in Tibetan refugee camps (NUCRA, 2015).
Statement of the Problem

 The refugee problem in South Asia is one of the most acute of this
continent and one of the most acute in the world.
 Nepal is facing several problems due to the Tibetans refugees. The
economy of country have deteriorated drastically and are today
characterized by rapid declining in agricultural production,
environmental threats, serious problems in social services,
increased costs of essential goods and risen unemployment.
 The government of Nepal is entitled to impose certain restriction
on the rights of Tibetan refugees, including right to freedom of
expression and performing certain socio-economic activities.
However, there are contentions on whether the currently imposed
restriction is lawful or not.
Research question

 Accordingly, this study aims to analyze three basic questions:


 How is the restriction of rights and freedoms of Tibetan
refugees in Buddha area of Nepal?
 Whether or not Nepal is under the influence of its northern
neighbor, China to restrict the freedom of expression of
Tibetans living in Nepal?
 What are the perceptions of people on Tibetan refugees?
Objective of the study

 The main objective of the study is to analysis the restriction of


rights and freedoms of the Tibetan refugee in Buddha area of
Nepal. Specifically the study has the following objectives:
 To analyzes the restriction of rights and freedom of Tibetan
refugees in Boudha of Kathmandu.
 To know about present condition of the Tibetan refugees in
Buddha.
 To find out socio-economic status Tibetan refugees in Buddha,
Kathmandu.

Signification of the Thesis

 Helps to understand the condition of Tibetan Refugee in


Buddha area.
 Facilitate for further in-depth study on the same subject.
 Collect the information about the reasons of restriction of
rights and expression of freedom of Tibetan refugees.
 If the purpose of the study is fulfilled, it will be preliminary
information to policy makers, planners, politicians,
bureaucrats.
Conceptual Framework

 Social-cultural variable play a crucial for molding human


behavior in society.
 In this study, the major variables are socio-cultural and
economic status of Tibetan refugees.Caste, education,
marriage, caste, family background, public activities relation,
social recognition etc. are some important social variable
which affect the human behavior.
 Occupation, expenditure, investment, trade, volume, profit,
saving, utilization are some economic variables of society

REVIEW OF LITERATURE
. This section of the study provides review of major theoretical
and empirical studies associated with the socio-cultural
condition of Tibetans refugees of Nepal.
 The review of literature in this study has been organized as

follows:

Research Methodology
1.Research Design
 The present study emphasizes on gaining familiarity with

children education and to achieve new insights into it, thus


this is an exploratory type of research.
 As the study aims to determine the lawfulness of restriction on

freedom of expression of Tibetan refugees in Nepal and


potential influence of China,
 This study have used qualitative content analysis to answer the

research questions.
2. Nature and Source of Data

 The nature of data of this study will be qualitative and


quantitative
 . Camps of Tibetan refugees will be observed. Tibetan
refugees and officials from the Home
 Ministry of Home Affairs will be interviewed to collect the
data
 Secondary data will be collected through the published and
unpublished documents related to the present study.
3.Universe and Sampling

 The respondents for interview will select on certain pre-


determined criteria.
 Tibetans who have been staying in Boudha area, Kathmandu
will be universe of the study.
 Among them 24 Tibetan refugees will be selected randomly
for the study purpose based on gender and will be interviewed
as the sample of this study.
 Academicians and legal professionals who had contextual
knowledge of the subject matter will be selected for interview.
4.Techniques of Data Collection
A )Observation
Observation is key to any research undertaking as this gives practical insight into
the subject and issue of the problem under research.
B) Interview
Interview is a frequently use and one of the important means to get information
on various sectors of respondents.
C) Data Presentation and Analysis
 The collected information will be presented and analyzed in systematic and

scientific way.
 The qualitative data will be presented in a systematic way to strengthen the

arguments and analysis them in logical ways based on obtain information.


 Similarly, quantitative data which will be collected in the form of numbers will

be classified on the basic of its nature and presented in tables, bars and diagrams
and show them in percentage and ratio.
 After presentation of data, they will be analyzed and interpretation in the logical

ways based on the facts.

D) Ethical Considerations
 The researcher will consider the privacy and confidentiality

of the participating respondents and will also take their


consent of what s/he has to disclose and what not.

The tentative time frame of the thesis of the work starting
from the month July 2019 includes the following table.
