User and User License :

• A user license determines the baseline of features that the user can access.
• Every user must have exactly one user license.
• You assign user permissions for data access through a profile and optionally one or more permission sets.
Standard User Licenses

• Salesforce provides full access to standard CRM and AppExchange apps.

• Salesforce Platform is a Lightning Platform license that lets users access custom apps, but does not give access to CRM
functionality.

• Lightning Platform – One App is similar to the above, but only allows users to access a single custom app.

• Force.com – App Subscription allows a user to access either a Lightning Platform Light App or Lightning Platform
Enterprise App.

• Chatter Free - The Chatter Free license is for users who don’t have Salesforce licenses but must have access to Chatter.
These users can access standard Chatter items such as people, profiles, groups, and files, but they can’t access any
Salesforce objects or data. Chatter Free users can also be Chatter moderators.

• Chatter External - This license is for users who are outside of your company’s email domain. These external
users, also called customers, can be invited to Chatter groups that allow customers.

• Knowledge Only User can be granted access the Salesforce Knowledge app. Provides access to custom objects, custom
tabs, and various standard tabs.

• Identity Only allows employees to only access identity services such as single sign-on. External Identity provides external
users, such as clients or partners, access to Salesforce Customer Identity.

• Developer is for users to build customizations or applications. The license provides one Developer sandbox, a scratch

• One User has one Profile but One profile can be assigned to any number of users.
• Profile is Mandatory.

What Is Profile?
• A Salesforce profile is a set of settings and permissions provided to specific Salesforce.
• A profile in Salesforce determines the way in which users can access objects and data to perform specific
business processes.
• Profile is mandatory to assigned to every user whenever a user.

A Salesforce profile controls the following key aspects pertaining to Salesforce:

1. Field Level Security – Here, the users are restricted to create, read, edit, and delete fields according to
specific requirements.
2. Page Layouts – This restricts the page layouts a Salesforce user is permitted to see.
3. Custom Apps – This restricts all the custom and standard apps that can be viewed and accessed by a
Salesforce user.
4. Record Types – This restricts the record types available to specific Salesforce users.
5. Login – This restricts the login hours of Salesforce users onto the platform based on specific requirements.
6. Tabs – This restricts the tabs that can be accessed and viewed by the Salesforce users.

Standard Platform User 1 > Custom app and 5 tab & all core CRM permission

Standard User A Standard User profile allows you to create and edit most of the key records, run
Salesforce reports, and view the setup of your Salesforce org. Although this profile
allows you to view campaigns, it does not allow you to manage them. Also, it
allows you to create solutions, but not view them.

Salesforce Partner User If this profile is assigned to a user, they can log into the org through a partner portal or a
Salesforce community.

Marketing User This Salesforce profile allows you to create and manage marketing campaigns,
create HTML email templates, create letterheads, manage public documents, add
campaign members, and update the statuses of the same using the Data Import
Wizard.

Read Only A user to view the Salesforce org setup and view records without being able to edit
them
Sandbox :
It is the Testing environment.

A Sandbox is a known isolated testing environment wherein the users can execute or run programs and files
without affecting either the application or the system on which they have their live data.

It is mostly used by software programmers to run a new programming code.
