 DEFINITION
Debate is basically a structured discussion. So you have some debate
formats, that are more open, like a presidential debate, or a town hall
debate, where groups of people debate against each other or you have
debate formats, that are far more structured. Two sides speak
alternately for and against a particular issue usually based on a
motions. In a debate, you have to argue as part of a team(government
side or opposition side) and be careful to not being contradict what
others on your side have said. Debate is an excellent way of improving
speaking skills and is particularly helpful in providing experience in
developing a convincing argument during dicussion.

 British Parliamentary
British parliamentary format is unique as it has two teams for each bench
with two speakers forming every team in the debate. This is their format
that is used by the world universities debating championship. Each
speakers will also run specific function that might be similar with 3 on 3
debate speaker roles but are actually different.

 Asian Parliamentary
This style of debate is kinda different than British parliamentary
debate. This is a format that is widely used in Asia, among
University and High School students. Asian Parliamentary only
consist of 2 teams.

There are two opposing teams in an Asians format of debate:

- Government side- proposes and defends the motion
- Opposition side- refute and negates the motion.
- Each bench of side is composed of three members.

 The first two speakers of the debate has the basic function to
FIRST give an introduction to their team's identity. That means they
have the duty to established the setup of the debate. Other
SPEAKER than providing introduction to their team's identity, both
speakers will also provide arguments that support their
stances. Specifically for leader of opposition they will have to
provide first engagement to team government this can be in
the form of clarification or rebuttals.
 They need to identify the problem, then give the background

SPEAKER  In Government team, called Deputy Prime Minister.
 Meanwhile in Opposition team, called Deputy Leader
of Opposition.
 The deputies of the debate will have two main
functions: present relevant extensions and further
engagement to the opponent teams.
 Note that for Deputy Prime Minister, since you are
going to be the first person that respond to the first
speaker of opposition team, you can also provide room

 THIRD SPEAKER

 In Government team, called Government Whip.

 Meanwhile in Opposition team, called Opposition Whip.
 The whips of the debate are the final defense that both teams have to bring responses
towards each other's opponents. Third speaker of both teams are not allowed to bring new
arguments that have never been talked before within the speeches of the four previous
speakers.

 REPLY
 Both in Government and Opposition team called Reply
Speaker.
SPEAKER
 Reply speakers come from the first and second
speakers only. That is to say, third speakers are not
allowed to deliver reply speech. When delivering reply
speech, speakers must not also introduced new material
such as new rebuttals, new arguments, etc. You are only
allowed to summarize previously bought points and put
your bias adjudication on them.
 You’ll have 4.30 minutes to deliver your speech

 Examples of Motion
1. THBT schools should be allowed to assess their students based on their social
media activity. (giving extra credit, give detention, etc.)
