MIDSEGMENT THEOREM
OF TRAPEZOID
Objectives:
MIDLINE THEOREM
The segment that joints the
midpoints of two sides of a triangle
is parallel to the third side and half
as long.
Let’s do this activity!!!
Procedures:
1. Locate the midpoint of IM and label it as point C.
2. Locate the midpoint of NS and label it as point F.
3. Connect the points C and F with a line.
4. Measure the length of the bases, IN and MS.
5. Add the lengths of the bases, IN and MS and then divide by two.
6. Measure the length of CF.
Questions
1. What are the midpoints of IM and NS?
2. Measure the two bases, IN and MS; what did you find?
3. Add the lengths of the bases, IN and MS and then divide by two.
What is the answer?
4. Measure the length of CF; how long is it?
5. Compare the half of the sum of the bases to the length of CF.
What did you find?
MIDSEGMENT THEOREM OF TRAPEZOID

A B
(AB + CD)
?
M N
8 CM
D C
MN = 6 CM
Example Two
10
A B
1 (10 + 14)
y+4= y + 4 = 12
y+4 2
M N
1 y = 12 – 4
y+4= (24)
2 y=8
D C
14
If AB = x - 6, MN = 8 and CD = 12, what is the value of x and AB?
16 + 6 - 12 = x
D C
12 cm 10 = x
x = 10
Let’s evaluate!
