A male sheep is called a ram.

A male goose is called a gander.
A female goose is called a goose.
A baby goose is called a gosling.
There are different types of geese. The

They love to eat vegetables, like
cabbage and cauliflower.

A male pig is called a boar.
A female pig is called a sow.
A baby pig is called a piglet.
There are different types of pig.
The pigs on farms are usually pink or
black, or a mix of both!

Pigs
Pigs eat lots of different kinds of food.
They eat plants, like grass or berries.
They also eat insects.
They use their snouts to find food. They have
an excellent sense of smell.
On farms, lots of pigs eat food made from
corn and whey. Whey comes from milk.

Pigs can get very big. Most


adult pigs weigh more than
adult humans.

A male cow is called a bull.
A female cow is called a cow.
A baby cow is called a calf.
There are lots of different types of
cow. They can be brown, white, black
or a mix.
Some have horns and others don’t.

A hen usually lays one egg each
day.
These are collected and sold in
shops for people to eat.

Horses
A male horse is called a stallion
or gelding.
A female horse is called a mare.
A baby horse is called a foal.
A male baby horse is a colt and
a female is a filly.
Horses have different ways of running.
A gentle run is called a trot. A faster
run is called a canter. Their fastest run
is called a gallop.

On the farm, horses are sometimes used to
help carry or pull things.
Horses can pull a heavy wagon.
Horses might pull a plough to dig up the soil on

Some farms have sheepdogs.
Sheepdogs are hardworking.
They are one of the cleverest types
of dog in the world.
They help the farmer to herd sheep,
moving them from one place to
another.

that keeps them healthy.
It contains a mix of meat, rice and
vegetables.
They need food that gives them
energy to run miles when doing
