WHAT IS FOOD SAFETY?

• Food Safety means an assurance that the food is acceptable for


human consumption according to its intended use.
• “Standard”, in relation to any article to, means the standard notified
by Food Authority.
• It is important for all the consumers and business operators-engaged
in production,processing,distribution and sale.
• It provides confidence to the consumer that the food they buy and
eat will not harm them and they are protected from
adulteration/fraud.
HIGHLIGHT OF FSSAI
• The act aims to establish a single reference point for all the matters
relating to food safety and standards by moving from multi-level,
multi-departmental control to a single line of command.

Types of License Register
• FSSAI registration is based on the business types, turnover and
capacity of production.

• Depending upon the installed capacity and turnover, FBOs are eligible
for license such as basic license, central license, and state license.
Required documents for basic FSSAI
registration
1. Authorized person address proof.
2. Passport size photo.
3. Business name and address.
4. FSSAI declaration form.
5. Nature of business detail.

Storage Requirement
• Warehouse must have FSSAI License for storing items and the license
must be displayed at a prominent location. The design and layout of
warehouse must permit adequate maintenance and cleaning.
• The warehouse must have facility to provide potable and non-potable
water with adequate arrangements for drainage & waste disposal.
• The premises must have sufficient lighting.
• An adequate and separate storage facility should be in place for food
products, chemicals & other hazardous substances, personal items,
etc.

• The Facility must have the capability of achieving the required
temperature and humidity.
• The premises must be kept clean and there must not be any seepage,
dirt, dust, etc. that can compromise food safety.
• Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has developed
inspection checklist for facilitating Food Safety Officers to
efficiently inspect the Food Business Operators (FBOs). The
inspection checklists are used to identify the level of compliance, with
each and every requirement being set out in the regulations.
