INTRODUCTION
Client centered approach is based on theory that human nature is
fundamentally sound and that every individual has the capacity of self
actualization and health adjustment.
How ever, the capacity may be blocked by emotional conflict, distorted
ideas or faulty self image in such cases the client is a person who need a
doctors (Hence the term client is used rather than the patient) but as
individual who has rejected or loss touched with his true and argue self.
In spite of this, his capacity of self realization remains and the objective of
the therapy is to bring it for fore so that the client may resolve his own
conflict, correct self image and recognize his personality and approach life.

ELEMENTS
In essence, the three 3 elements of client centered approach are:
 CONGRUENT:-
 UNCONDITIONAL POSITIVE REGARD:-
 EMPHATIC UNDERSTANDING:-
CONGRUENT

 Congruent in cancelling is also known as genuineness .

 Congruent is most important attribute in cancelling according to Roger .
 The therapist most be authentic by displaying genuineness & congruent with the
client .this mean that ,they would always act in accordance of there own though
And feelings , allowing them self to share openly and honestly .
 This requires self awareness and realistic understanding of internal experience like
though and emotion as well as external experience .
UNCONDITIONAL POSITIVE REGARD

 The therapist always shows unconditional positive regards by always accepting client
for who ever the client is and displaying support and care no matter what the client is
facing and experiencing
 By creating a climate of unconditional positive regards the therapist may help the
client to feel or be able to express his true emotions without fear or rejection .
EMPHATIC UNDERSTANDING

 Is the ability of the therapist to understand what the client is feeling .

 This also refers to the therapist ability to understand sensitively and
accurately the client experience and feelings .
 The important part of the task is to follow precisely what the client is feeling
and to communicate to them, the therapist must understand what they are
feeling.
BARRIERS

 Poor information exchange

Some studies reported that one of the biggest barrier is not only poor
communication only but also lack of specific information about the personal
and clinical background of the client. The break down is between the care staff
and the resident ,staff and families as well as staff it self.
 Staff turn over
This means for example ,when the high level manager leaves work place and
are not replace for some time living gap in the productivity and greater work
load on those remaining .
CONT….
 Lack of management engagements
Another way to stop progress in person centered approach and culture
exchange is to have a management or supervisory staff that are lazy or not hard
working .They show no interest for change and do not play a significant role in
helping the change to take placed .
 Inadequate trust
Patient often do not trust there clinician’s managements of there health ,this
is due to transparency combine with the rising cause of care over decades .
 High acuity residents
