rise in digital transactions, underscoring the growing
importance of cybersecurity in the country.

GLOBAL ECONOMY
•Cybercrimes have significant repercussions,
leading to substantial financial losses for
businesses and individuals while eroding trust
and brand reputation.
•The global cost of cybercrime is projected to
rise from US$3 trillion in 2015 to US$10.5
trillion by 2025.
•Average cost of data breach has been steadily
increasing over the years, indicating the rising
financial impact of cybercrimes.

Phishing, financial fraud, and malware are among the most prevalent
cybercrimes, impacting various sectors including technology, financial
services, and healthcare.
LEGAL FRAMEWORKS IN INDIA

•Information Technology Act, 2000 (IT Act):


• Primary law governing electronic transactions and cybercrime.
• Defines cybercrime offenses and their punishments.
•Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008:
• Amendment to IT Act introducing new cyber offenses.
• Enhances measures to combat cyber threats.
•Indian Penal Code (IPC):
• Sections related to online fraud, cheating, harassment, and stalking.
•Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC):
• Procedural law for investigation, trial, and punishment of cybercrimes.

CURRENT TRENDS IN INDIA
• In India most of the cyber crime done through
social media. The total internet users in India are
560 billion. - Cyber crimes such as Threats,
Bullying, Harrassing and Stalking other online
cases are done through social media.
• According to NCRB report, most of the cases are
form Uttar Pradesh.
• UP also called cyber capital of India.
• In India most of the cyber cases are Phishing
scams, identity theft scams, online harassment,
cyber stalking, invasion of privacy . In India total
50,035 cases of cybercrime were
registered in past few years.

Future challenges and opportunities in Cyber Law and Ethics are expected to arise
due to advancements in technology and changes in digital landscapes.
