LIFE

• Diana Frances Spencer


• Born on July 1, 1961 in Sandringham, Norfolk, England.
• Edward John Spencer, Viscount Althorp - father
• Frances Ruth Burke Roche, Viscountess Althorp (later known as the Honorable Frances
Shand Kydd) - mother
• After attending finishing school at Institut Alpin Videmanette in Switzerland, she moved
to London.
• She began working with children, eventually becoming an assistant at Young England
Kindergarten.
• First wife of Charles (Prince of Wales).
• Have 2 children.
• Died on August 31, 1997 in Paris, France.
MARRIAGE
• Charles was first boyfriend from her sister.
• On February 24, 1981, their engagement was announced.
• The couple married in St. Paul‘s Cathedral on July 29, 1981 ( in a globally televised
ceremony watched by an audience numbering in the hundreds of millions ).
• Their first child, Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales , was born on June 21, 1982.
• Their second child, Prince Henry („Harry”) Charles Albert David , on September 15, 1984.
• From her marriage in 1981 to her divorce in 1996, she was called “Her Royal Highness The
Princess of Wales”.
• „ I realized that I took a huge role, but I had no idea what I was going to do.”
• Suspicious of Charles's affair with Camille Parker Bowles, with whom the prince would
marry after her death, Diana had already begun to enter marriage without mutual love.
DISEASE
• Honneymoon-first suicide attempt ( Charles took 8 books just so he couldn’t talk
with his wife ).

• In the early 1990s, toward the end of marriage, Diana gave a series of interviews
to promising to share her „true story”.

DIVORCE
• Prince and Princess of Wales were separated on 9 December 1992
• Their divorce was finalised on 28 August 1996.
• After her divorce from the Prince of Wales in 1996, Diana ceased to be the
Princess of Wales and also lost the resulting Royal Highness style.
• After her divorce, officially, she was called Diana, Princess of Wales.
• However, since the divorce, Buckingham Palace has maintained that Diana was
officially a member of the Royal Family since she was the mother of the second
and third in line to the throne
• Charles resumed his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles, whilst Diana
became involved with James Hewitt and possibly later with James Gilbey
CHARITY WORK

DEATH
• On August 31, 1997, a car crashed in the Alma tunnel in Paris.
• The driver was speeding and had high levels of alcohol in his system.
• Princess Diana was proclaimed dead less than four hours later.
• Her partner and the driver didn’t survive either.
• Fayed’s bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones is the only person who survived the
wreckage
• Londoners began leaving tributes of flowers, candles, photos, and personal notes
outside her home at Kensington Palace
• The royal family had a different impact – Summer residence at Balmoral Castle
• Conspiracy theories that still surround princess Diana’s death.
FUNERAL
• William, then age 15, and Prince Harry, then age 12, walking solemnly with their
father behind Diana’s casket in her funeral
• 2.5 billion people worldwide viewed or listened to the funeral, while another three
million crowded the streets of London to follow the route of Diana's coffin from
Kensington Palace to her final resting place at the Spencer family home in
Althorp
• At Diana’s funeral Sir Elthon John performed a version of his classic song
„ Candle in the Wind ” (originally written about actress Marilyn Monroe )
