Roll No : AR-20-018 SEM : 04 ECSTASY OF SAINT TERESA Location: Santa Maria della Vittoria, Rome, Italy Sculptor: Gian Lorenzo Bernini Year: 1652 Saint Teresa of Avila was a Spanish nun who claimed to have experienced divine visions in which she would suddenly feel consumed by the love of God, feel the bodily presence of Christ or of angels, and be lifted to an exalted state of ecstasy. This sculpture depicts one of the visions described by her in her spiritual autobiography. In it, an angel carrying a fire-tipped spear appears before her. This sculptor shows the emotion and feeling of person who believes in god and spirituality and gets a chance to see them. It shows the warmth and affection of the girl seeing her almighty. The sculptor also shows the expressions of both the deity and the girl. The sculptor shows some pattern by adding curve and wavy lines in the dress of the girl. There is perfect pattern in the dress. The sclupture have smooth and rough texture and that makes feel of something that have actually happened. The sculptor itself describes the feeling of love between god and its devotees. The pattern that is created on the seat just gets blend with the dress of the girl sitting on the seat.
