 Overview of Writing Test tasks
Parts 1 and 2 are compulsory and there is no choice of question. In part 3,
candidates have a choice and there are three different tasks to choose from.
•Part 1 (Compulsory task) INFORMAL MESSAGE
•Candidates have to write an email to a friend in about 80 words

•Part 2 (Compulsory task) GUIDED WRITING

•Candidates have to write an essay in about 150 words

•Part 3 (Candidates have a choice of task) EXTENDED WRITING

•This part has three questions or tasks to choose from. The tasks types may
include an article, a review, a report or a story and candidates have to
choose one. They have to write about 250 words.

Dear Amy,

Thanks for your email. How are you keeping? It’s good that
the school holiday is finally here! I can’t wait to enjoy picnic
with our buddies!

I think we should go to Sagoo-Sagoo Beach. This is

the famous spot for nature-lover teenagers like us. To add,
this beach has a golden sand which looks like gold dust.
 Then, we can enjoy playing beach volleyball together. I
remember that you are a talented school volleyball player,
right? After we get sweat, we can freshen up ourselves by
swimming in the clear blue beach water.
We should bring food, drinks, mats, hats, sunscreen or
sunblock lotion. In addition, don’t forget to bring swimming
suits and thongs too!
