1) How many computers are in the network
2) How many are wired and how many are wirelessly
connected
3) The computer which is issues, is a Laptop or a Desktop.
4) If any other computer can go online wirelessly
5) Brand and Model of the Wireless Router
6) Brand and Model of the wireless adapter installed on the
computer which has issues.
7) Ask customer if he knows the type of Security on the
network (WEP/WPA/WPA2)
Common Issues
• Error: No Wireless Networks were found within the
range.
• Cannot connect to Wireless Network (Limited or no
connectivity)
• Cannot connect to Wireless Network after installing
SP3
• Error after you click on “Connect” : This network is no
more in range…..
• Error : Windows cannot configure this wireless
network.
First Step
If a customer calls in saying he is not able to go
Online wirelessly, after you collect all the relevant
information, try and see if customer can hardwire the
computer to the Wireless Router and check if he can
go Online. If yes, you can use Easy Assist, to
troubleshoot further…..!!!!!
Error: No Wireless Networks were
found within the range.
If the computer showing this error is a Laptop, make
sure that the Wireless Switch on the Laptop (Which is
normally located near the CD Drive or in the line of
Function Keys)is Turned ON

Uninstall and reinstall the wireless adapter

Changing the Wireless Channel from default 6 to 11,

also helps.
Cannot connect to Wireless
Network (Limited or no
connectivity)
If customer is able to go online hardwired to the
router, open the Router page and check for the type
of Security (WEP/WPA) and try to connect using the
Key mentioned on the Router page.

Remove all the network names from “Preferred

Networks” list and try to connect again. ( See the
screenshot on next page).
Cannot connect to Wireless
Network after installing SP3
It has been observed that after installing SP3, wireless
connections work only if the Network Security on the
Router is set to WPA (TKIP or AES).

If security is set to WEP on the Router, try changing it

to WPA/WPA2, Save the Settings and then try to
connect.
Error after you click on “Connect” : This network
is no more in range…..
Equipments like Cordless Phones, Ovens etc. use
frequency and channel, same as Wireless Routers
do…. Due to which wireless networks experience
interference from these equipments.
So, change the Wireless channel from 6 ( which is
Default) to 1 or 11 and then try to connect to the
network.
Error : Windows cannot configure
this wireless network.
The reason behind this error is that the Third Party
utility on the computer is handling the Wireless
Connection.
First of all, Start Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC)
service from services.msc console.
Then go to Wireless Network Connection Properties
and click on “ Wireless Networks” tab.
Check the box that says “ Use Windows to configure
my Wireless Network Settings”.

Remove all the names from “Preferred Networks” list

and click on OK.

Rt. Click on Wireless Network Connection and go to

“View Available Wireless Networks”… You should get
the list of all the available wireless networks.
