for mental illness, such as-:

• Adverse Childhood Experiences, such as trauma or a history of abuse (for example,

child abuse, sexual assault, witnessing violence, etc.)

• Experiences related to other ongoing (chronic) medical conditions, such as a

traumatic brain injury, cancer, or diabetes

• Biological factors or chemical imbalances in the brain use of alcohol and drugs leads
to isolation and

HEALTH”

Mental and physical health are equally important

components of overall health. For example, depression
increases the risk for many types of physical health
problems, particularly long-lasting conditions like
diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Similarly, the presence
of chronic conditions can increase the risk for mental
illness.

SEROTONIN
serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT) is a chemical that acts as a hormone and
neurotransmitter in the body. It's produced in the brain and throughout the body, but 95% of it is
made in the intestines. Serotonin plays a role in many bodily functions, including:

• Mood: Serotonin is known as a "happy hormone" that can mediate feelings of satisfaction, optimism, and happiness.
Low serotonin levels can be associated with depression, anxiety, irritability, mood swings, and disrupted sleep.

• Sleep: Serotonin works with melatonin to regulate sleep and wake cycles
.
• Pain: Serotonin can affect how you feel pain.

• Other functions: Serotonin also regulates cardiovascular function, bowel motility, bladder control, ejaculatory
latency, digestion, nausea, wound healing, bone health, and blood clotting
DOPAMINE
Dopamine is a chemical messenger, or neurotransmitter, that plays a role in many body functions,
including:

• Dopamine is known as the "feel-good" hormone because it's involved in the brain's reward system and gives you a
sense of pleasure and motivation.
• Activities like sex, shopping, and smelling cookies baking can trigger dopamine release, or a "dopamine rush".
• Dopamine levels are associated with many diseases, including Parkinson's disease, restless legs syndrome, attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and nausea and vomiting.

Oxytocin is a peptide hormone and neuropeptide that plays a role in many human
behaviors, including social bonding, love, reproduction, childbirth, and the period
after childbirth. It's produced in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior
pituitary.

Oxytocin can be released in response to:

• Non-noxious sensory stimulation, such as touch, warmth, stroking, or low intensity skin stimulation
• Ingestion of food
• Stimulation of other senses, such as olfaction, sound, and light
• Psychological mechanisms, such as positive interaction involving touch and psychological support
• Activation of sensory nerves during labor, breastfeeding, and sexual activity
