There are two main ways to reach Andaman and Nicobar Islands: By air and by sea

By Air:

•Veer Savarkar Airport in Port Blair is the main airport in the islands.
•There are direct flights to Port Blair from major cities in India,
including Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and
Visakhapatnam.
•Travel time typically ranges from 2.5 to 3.5 hours.

By Sea:
•This is a more budget-friendly option, but it is also much slower.

Ship to Andaman and Nicobar


•Government-operated ferries connect Port Blair to mainland India from
Chennai, Kolkata and Visakhapatnam.
•The journey by ship can take anywhere from 2.5 to 3 days, depending on the
weather conditions.
•Once in Port Blair, inter-island ferries can take you to other islands in the
archipelago.

Chidiya Tapu, also known as Bird Island, is a scenic location nestled on the southern tip of
South Andaman Island, roughly 25 kilometers from Port Blair, the capital city of Andaman

The Cellular Jail: A Monument to India's Freedom Struggle
The Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani (Black Water), stands as a silent
sentinel in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This imposing
structure, built between 1896 and 1906 by the British Raj, served as a
colonial prison notorious for its harsh conditions and solitary confinement.
•Designed to isolate and break the spirits of political
prisoners, the jail featured a radial cellular design
with seven wings radiating from a central
watchtower.
•Each cell was solitary, denying prisoners human
contact and hindering communication.
•Cellular Jail became a dreaded destination for
Indian revolutionaries fighting for independence.
Many prominent figures, including Veer Savarkar,
Batukeshwar Dutt, and Yogendra Shukla, were
incarcerated here.
