Competency-based education is defined
as an “approach [that] allows students to
advance based on their ability to master
a skill or competency at their own pace
regardless of environment. This method
is tailored to meet different learning
abilities and can lead to more efficient
student outcomes.
According to The Glossary of
Education Reform, student
engagement “refers to the
degree of attention, curiosity,
interest, optimism, and passion
that students show when they
are learning or being taught,
which extends to the level of
motivation they have to learn
and progress in their education
