INTRODUCTION
▪ Reading comprehension is the ability to conclude and understand
the content and main ideas of a book correctly.

▪ Anyone who wants to learn how to study well should work on their
reading comprehension abilities.

▪ With the spike of the COVID-19 Pandemic, one of the

struggles that elementary teacher face is monitoring the
reading comprehension progress of the pupils.
Due to pandemic modular distance
learning now used in elementary
schools, in which Self-Learning
Modules are used as a medium for the
teaching-learning process where
parents teach and the home serves as
the learning environment.
The situation at home has a huge impact on a child's
performance in school. Many families are facing severe
challenges at this time, especially those who belong to low-
income families, where their top priority is finding food
and daily needs, so they are losing time to motivate and
encourage their children in their studies, and it results in
children feeling demotivated about their studies. For a
variety of reasons, not all homes are conducive to learning.
Current report shows that many elementary pupils are
having difficulty on the reading comprehension especially
during this pandemic. Due to this, the researchers
decided to choose this specific study about FACTORS
AFFECTING THE LEVEL OF READING
COMPREHENSION AMONG GRADE 6 PUPILS AT
VILLAREAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DURING
MODULAR DISTANCE LEARNING.

survey Method and Correlational Design. Survey methods
involved questionnaires that will be disseminated to the
respondents in order to provide information that will answer the
problem of the study. At the same time, Correlational design is
also use from the sense that it identify the level of reading
comprehension during modular distance learning.

The respondents of this study are the grade six pupils of

Villareal Elementay School who is presently enrolled in the
year 2021-2022. With 27 male and 17 female, a total of 44

permission to acquire the number of respondents enrolled in the school year
2021–2022.
The researcher adapted a survey questionnaire derived from
journals.researchparks.org/index.php/IJIE/article/view/141 to be utilized as a
data collection tool for the investigation.

The researcher then presented the questionnaire to the teacher of grade 6 pupils.
The researcher requested permission from the teacher to deliver the questionnaire
with their modules.
Following the completion of the questionnaires by the students, the data was
gathered by the researcher. After the data collection, the researcher will evaluate
and analyze the material in order to come up with conclusions and suggestions.
