• Bird migration is the regular seasonal
journey undertaken by many species of
birds.
• Bird movements include those made
in response to changes in food
availability, habitat or weather.
• Approximately 1800 of the world's 10,000
bird species are long-distance migrants.

• The Arctic Tern is a sea bird.
• The species is strongly i ator , seeing
two summers each year as it migrates from
the north along a winding route to the
oceans around Antarctica and back, a round
trip of about 70,900 km each year.
• This is by far the longest regular migration
by
any known animal.

• The Bar-tailed Godwit is a large wader,
from the Arctic coasts
and Tundra and winters on coasts in
temperate and tropical regions.
• It makes the longest known non-stop flight
of any bird without pausing to feed by any

to New Zealand.
