ASSESSMENT OF FACTORS INFLUENCING TO ALCOHOL

CONSUMPTION TO ADULT PEOPLE LIVING AT KIGAMBONI
DISTRICT FROM DECEMBER 2023 TO FEBRUARY 2024
INTRODUCTION
•Alcohol is widely used in our society. Most individual drink alcohol in ways do not increase risk for alcohol
use problems and may also derive a health benefit For others use of alcohol will increase their risk for alcohol
problems. Defining precisely who at risk for alcohol problems and assessing the risk versus the benefit of
alcohol use are important to designing effective intervention to reduce alcohol problems and providing accurate
public health information.
•Overall, 5.1% of the global burden of disease and injury is attributed to alcohol, as measured in disability
adjusted life year(DALYs).Alcohol consumption causes death and disability relatively early in life, In the age
group 20-39 years approximately 13.5% of the total death are alcohol attributable.(WHO,2018)
•The alcohol consumption is causal factor and injury conditions. Drinking alcohol is associated with a risk of
developing health problems such as mental and behavioral disorders including alcohol dependence major non
communicable disease such as liver cirrhosis, cardiovascular diseases as well as injuries resulting from violence
and road clashes and collisions.
OBJECTIVES
•1.4.1Main objective:
• The main object was to assess the factors influence to alcohol consumption to adult people living at kigamboni
district

•1.4.2 Specific objectives

1. To assess the type and quality of alcohol used by the adult people living at kigamboni district
2. To assess the knowledge level on the effect alcohol consumption among adult people living at kigamboni
district
3. To assess the number of people who are alcohol consumption at kigamboni district
METHODOLOGY
•3. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
•3.1 Study design
•The study design was quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study used during the study the research topic on the factor influence alcohol
consumption to adult people living at kigamboni district aged 18-45 years.

•3.2 Study area

•The study area was at kigamboni district

•3.3 Study population

•The study involved all adult people aged 18-45 years.

•3.4 Sampling procedure

•Non -probability sampling was used during the study to collect data to the participants.

•3.5 Sample size

•The study was involved 75 participants this is because of lack of enough time to conduct the study.
RESEARCH RESULTS
•The study comprised of 75 participants who were alcohol user. Adult
people aged 18-45years who were alcohol user were 55 with percentage
of 73%,above 45 years were 11 with percentage of 15%,˂18years were
9with percentage of 12% . In the study 47 participants were males with
the percentage of 62% and 28 participant were female with the
percentage of 37%.
RESULTS DISCUSSION
• 5.0 DISCUSSION
•The study was aimed to assess the factors influence to alcohol consumption to adult people living at district The adult’s
people at kigamboni district in later life who were asked to talk about alcohol and health oriented strongly towards the
opposed identifies of normal or problematic drinker. In the data from the interview could be seen to negotiate consensual
views on alcohol and its implication for both health and propriety, providing support for their views being socially
constructed in response to particular context. .The findings of the reason which motivate people to use alcohol is to reduce
stress, participants who use alcohol responded to the question and gave the answer that alcohol reduces stress, for social
interaction and culture influence adult people to use alcohol.
•Absolute numbers of risky drinker in adults are large compare to older people will grow in ageing population there is
need to develop preventive approaches that specifically target to adults people, for instance longer term home support,
tailored information on risk to health from alcohol use in later life
•The study shows that there is great number whereby 60.3% of adult people were alcohol users compare to the studies
which reviewed in the literature review. Example the study which was conducted in Kenya showed that about 66.6% were
alcohol users . The study shows there is the increase in number of adults who use alcohol.
RECOMMENDATIONS

•The adult people should find other ways of stress relieving rather than use of alcohol. This can help to reduce
the cost which can be used to buy local beer.
•Adult people living at RHTI should engage in sports, games and economic activities as the way of stress
relieving rather than alcohol use. Also health education should be provided on the risk factors that can occur due
to alcohol consumption.
•The use of local beer may carry risks in terms of quality and risks of contamination, therefore further studies
should be carried out to assess for the local beer for contaminants and strength of alcohol and to take
appropriate action based on the findings.
CONCLUSION
•The trend of abusive alcohol consumption increases in both genders .Data endorse the need for national
public policies aiming to prevent the abusive consumption and health education should be conducted on the
risk of alcohol consumption.
•In this study found that most of adult people living at kigamboni district use local beer for the reason of stress
relief this led to the increase in number of adult people to alcohol consumption.
•Also, it was found that adult people use local beer more than one liter which cost a total of 1500 shillings per
day which can lead to the poor living condition to their families.
•There is still a gap in the level of knowledge to adult people living at kigamboni district because most adult
people who are alcohol users are not aware on the risks of alcohol use.
