“The Targets”
(9.1-9.8)
Objective: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster
innovation
Target 9.1:- DEVELOP SUSTAINABLE, RESILIENT AND INCLUSIVE INFRASTRUCTURES
Target 9.2:- PROMOTE INCLUSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE INDUSTRIALIZATION
Target 9.3:- INCREASE ACCESS TO FINANCIAL SERVICES AND MARKETS
Target 9.4:- UPGRADE ALL INDUSTRIES AND INFRASTRUCTURES FOR SUSTAINABILITY
Target 9.5:- ENHANCE RESEARCH AND UPGRADE INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGIES
Target 9.6:- FACILITATE SUSTAINABLE INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT FOR DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
Target 9.7:- SUPPORT DOMESTIC TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT AND INDUSTRIAL DIVERSIFICATION
Target 9.8:- UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY
What is Infrastructure?
 Infrastructure is the basic facilities and system serving a country,
region, or community.
Infrastructure is all around us it includes the roads/transport, the water
reservoirs, canal systems, electricity, internet data centers and
telecommunications etc.
Often defined in two types hard Infrastructure and soft Infrastructure
Infrastructure is important for the efficient/smooth working of an
economy, business or nation.
Role/Impact of Infrastructure
Better Infrastructure = Better Industry = Boost in Innovation

General:- Examples:-
Infrastructure plays a significant role in The first example we can refer to in order to

Implementation
Implementation on a Large scale:- The role we play:-
 To successfully implement SDG 9 and industry  We think that our impact on boosting an SDG is only
wide shift in the mindset is required. Industry's minor however that is not the case
should pursue absolute sustainability  We as a consumer have the power to encourage
 Firstly however reliable infrastructure must be in businesses to follow SDG principles by choosing
place to do so e.g. effective road networks, quality environmentally friendly products over others e.g.
water and electricity systems and advancements in sustainably resourced groceries or preferring an
the manufacturing sector. electric car
 Foster, promote & appreciate innovation  Moreover we can play and active role in the
campaigns and host community talks in schools,
 Educate the general public hospitals and library's etc.
 We should also promote sustainable solutions and
support reliable and resilient infrastructure
Current world scenario on SDG 9
 There has been a significant recovery on SDG 9 after the pandemic in 2021 although the rebound
has been uneven across countries.
 The global share of manufacturing value added in total GDP increased from 16.2 per cent in 2015
to 16.9 per cent in 2021
 Globally, the share of manufacturing jobs in total employment declined from 13.7 per cent in 2019
to 13.1 per cent in 2020
 Only about one in three small manufacturers are benefiting from a loan or line of credit
 Between 2015 and 2021, 4G network coverage doubled, reaching 88 per cent of the world’s
population
 In least developed countries, 14 per cent of the rural population have no mobile network coverage
at all, while another 12 per cent have only 2G coverage.
Relation with other SDG goals
 SDG 9 has interlinkages with many other Goals and targets for example :
 Improvements in innovation and technological progress can help address SDG 13
Climate Action for e.g. replacement of fossil fuels with renewable energy
technologies can reduce our carbon emissions and there impact on global warming
 Similarly investment in scientific research and innovation can assist in boosting
different goals such as SDG 3,6,7 & 11
 Moreover development in the manufacturing sector especially of the developing
countries will assist in SDG 1,8 & 10
