PERCENTILES for

GROUPED DATA
LEARNING OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected
to:

a)describe the percentiles of grouped data.

b. calculate a specified measure of position for

grouped data using percentiles.

c. appreciate the importance of measures of

position in real life situations.
Percentiles are score points which divide a distribution
into one hundred equal parts. The kth decile denoted by
Pk is computed as follow:

Pk
Where:
LB = lower boundary of the Pk class
N = total frequency
= cumulative frequency of the class
before the Pk class
k= frequency of the Pk class
i = size of class interval
k = nth decile, where n = 1, 2, 3 and 99
EXAMPLE NO. 1 P50 class?
Calculate the P65, and P90 of the scores of 50 students. 𝑘𝑁

41- 45 8 40.5 46

INTERPRETATION: This means that 65 % of the

scores is less than or equal to 37.5 and 35% of the
scores are greater than 37.5.
ACTIVITY TIME!

Solve the P90. ( Show your solution and the

interpretation of the result)
