Hyphen and Dash
oHYPHEN – used to create compound words OR
aids in pronunciation. FOR EXAMPLE co-
ordinate.
oDASH- used to add new information, indicates
a list or provide additional information. FOR
EXAMPLE: Jessica- the head girl of 2024, will
receive an honours blazer.

COMMA SPLICE
o An English error where to sentences are joined by a comma.
o FOR EXAMPLE- I wanted to go to school, my friends sit on
the field and talk every day.
o In order to correct this you can either use a semi colon, add a
full stop or provide a suitable subordinating conjunction.
o FOR EXAMPLE- I wanted to go to because my friends sit on
the field and talk everyday.
o OR- I wanted to go to school ; my friends sit on the field and
talk everyday.
