CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
 BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
Computer-based Test (CBT) has a number of important advantages compared to
traditional paper-based exams (PBE) such as efficiency, immediate scoring and
feedback in the case of multiple-choice question exams. Furthermore, CBE allow
more innovative and authentic assessments due to more advanced technological
capacities. Examples are the use of video clips and slide shows to assess medical
students in surgery or the use of computer based case simulations to assess social
skills. However, there are also drawbacks when administering CBT such as the
additional need for adequate facilities, test-security, back-up procedures in case of
technological failure, and time for staff and students to get acquainted with new
technology.
Hardware peripheral configuration setup gives maximum satisfaction to the user and
a very rewarding experience. To configure Desktop PC (Personal Computer) the
users/builders of such systems are probably contemplating building or configuring a
computer instead of purchasing one pre-built or pre-assembled. This project is to
enlighten us on how computer students can configure a computer and peer to peer
network with less stress and less amount of money, and how the computer built can
meet up with the processing requirement of the school Laboratory.

Statements of the Problem

Were there any loud noises or smoke when the problem first
appeared? Then it is probably a hardware problem, with the
most likely culprit being the SMPS (Switched Mode Power
Supply) unit. Hardware is everything you can touch: your
mouse, your monitor, your keyboard and all the bits inside your
computer. Hardware in CBT can be damaged through a variety
of ways, like dropping it, getting it wet or allowing it to
overheat. A malfunction within the electronic circuits or
electromechanical components (disks, tapes) of a computer
system. Recovery from a hardware failure requires repair or
replacement of the offending part. Contrast with software
failure. Insufficient RAM, Computer need sufficient RAM to
perform the desired functions once the memory is not
sufficient. The performance will be slow. As a hard disk
becomes full, the computer’s performance is reduced.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES
The aim of this project work is to design and implement of
hardware maintenance in Computer Base Test and the
objectives are stated below;
 To develop a system that will manage, control and check
issues of the hardware of computers.
 To design a system that will detect latent issues with
Computer Base Test centre that can grow into major
problems if not addressed in a timely manner
 To impact the performance of CBT and give sub-optimal
output.
 And to address issues before they become problems

LITERATURE REVIEW
REVIEW OF RELATED WORK
 Ejim (2017) “Computer Based Examination System with Multi-Factor
Authentication and Message Notification Features” This work is concerned with
computer based examination system. It focused on trends in online computer
based examination and carried out a critical review of current computer based
test system employ in Cisco Training Centre of Prof. Iya Abubakar CRC. An
alternative system to provide solutions to the current challenges identified in
the existing system was then proposed. The system was designed using the
object OOAD methodology and implemented using rapid PHP IDE on a Windows
10 system, using PHP, HTML, CSS and MySQL technologies and Apache server as
the application server with multifactor authentication.
 Jerome (2015) “Computer Hardware: Hardware Components and Internal PC
Connections” You might see a specification for a PC 1 such as "containing an
Intel i7 Hexa core processor - 3.46GHz, 3200MHz Bus, 384 KB L1 cache, 1.5MB
L2 cache, 12 MB L3 cache, 32nm process technology; 4 gigabytes of RAM, ATX
motherboard, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system, an Intel®
GMA HD graphics card, a 500 gigabytes SATA hard drive (5400rpm), and WiFi
802.11 bgn". This section aims to discuss a selection of hardware parts, outline
common metrics and specifications used to describe them, what they measure
as well as their operation.

CHAPTER THREE
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND ANALYSIS OF THE SYSTEM
 Data Collection
 The first step in configuring a computer is acquiring the parts which were carefully
done by first considering the purpose of the computer to be coupled. The core
components were selected and listed as follows:
 Power Supply/PSU :– Power Supply Unit, converts outlet power, which is alternating
current (AC), to direct current (DC) which is required by internal components, as well
as providing appropriate voltages and currents for these internal components.
 Motherboard/mainboard – As the name indicates, this is the electronic centerpiece of
the computer: everything else connects to the motherboard.
 Processor/CPU – central processing unit, the "brain" of the computer, most actual
computation takes place here.
 RAM :– random access memory, the "short-term memory" of a computer, used by the
CPU to store program instructions and data upon which it is currently operating. Data
in RAM is lost when the computer is powered off, thus necessitating a hard drive.
 HDD (Hard disk drive- slower of the two but less expensive) and/or SSD (solid state
drive. Very fast but not as cheap) – the "long-term memory" of the computer, used for
persistent storage – i.e. the things stored on it remain even when the computer is
powered down. 6
RESULT AND DISCUSSION
 DESIGN OF THE SYSTEM
 The design of the system gives the details of the design
components that make up the project application. The program design
components discuss in this section are the output design, input design,
database design and procedure design. Each of the section is explained
as follows with a diagram.
 4.1.1 OUTPUT DESIGN
 The output design covers the mode output presentation of the
program, description of the output interface and the specific output
medium. The output interfaces are designed in a report form for better
presentation and well formatted interpretation of its content. The
medium of output varies depending on the choice of the program user.

4.1.2 INPUT DESIGN
Input design refers to the format or the design of the input format on the
screen. Inputs are necessary information needed for processing so as to produce the
expected output; which are supplied through the keyboard. The input to the proposed
system is shown below.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

 CONCLUSION
In this project research, a CBT is developed and proposed for students. The information system is an
online examination system that delivers question by the lecturers to the student and generates the
report of the results of students who take the examination as well as overall examination result
summary based on the user’s account. Challenges including examination malpractices, low capacity
examination venues, inadequate invigilators, inadequate examination materials, omission of student’s
results and human error(s) during the marking/grading process will be automatically eliminated
following the adoption of this examination. Computers are used in day to day activities. One of the
most important factor used in a computer are its hardware. The hardware is a vital part of a
computer. The hardware play a main role in the computation and execution process of a computer.
Computers have a tremendous scope for improvement and refinement. A diverse range of important
parts of a computer hardware were analysed. These parts are the core elements of a computer
system. Without these parts a system can never perform. All the technical terms discussed above are
the core elements of a computer. The hardware and the software together provide us with the proper
usability of the computer.
 RECOMMENDATION
This project centered on developing an application that is capable of hidden private information
within a network in such a way that no one apart from the intended recipient knows of the existence
of the message. I recommend that this research wok should be furthered as it stands the chance of
encouraging banks, industries, public and private enterprises to secure their vital information while
transferring them via computer network
