Definitions of Research
Research is the systematic process of collecting, discovering and analyzing information (data) or new
knowledge through systematic observation and inquiry in which we are concerned or interested.
Research is one of many different ways of knowing or understanding. It is different from other ways
of knowing, such as insight, divine inspiration, and acceptance of authoritative dictates, in that it is a
process of systematic inquiry that is designed to collect, analyze, interpret, and use data.
According to (Wikipedia), Research is "creative and systematic work undertaken to increase the
stock of knowledge".
According to Payton (1979), Research is a systematic, formal, rigorous and precise process
employed to gain solutions to problems or to discover and interpret new facts and relationships.
The Advanced Learner’s Dictionary of English defines ‘research’ as a careful investigation or inquiry
specifically through search for new facts in any branch of knowledge. 07/16/2024 4
