SMART TRAFFIC

SIGNAL MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM

Project By:- Fatima Sheikh

Anum Ayub
MOTIVATION
• The mismanagement of traffic and
consequent congestion has arisen
many problems

• To reduce them, the idea of Smart

Traffic Signal Management System has
been suggested.

• The current traffic controlling system is

either manual or rigid which are
inefficient methods.
ABSTRACT
• Congestion in traffic is a serious issue.
• In existing system signal timings are fixed and they are independent of traffic density, Large
red light delays leads to traffic congestion.
• In this project, Video based traffic estimation system is implemented in which signal timings
are updated based on the vehicle counting.
• This system consists of Deep Learning module it detect the vehicle count of the current
system and sends to the traffic signal.
• Based on traffic density of Vehicle System will Predict the Traffic Congestion.
• By creating our own data set based on images captured from within the city, the proposed
project aims to make decisions for the traffic signal timings based on the vehicle densities.
The project would deploy on a four-way traffic signal.
INTRODUCTION
• Almost all urban cities in the world use traffic

light signals to control the traffic on the roads.

• Different types of traffic light control systems are

developed which are vehicle actuated lights and

static traffic lights.

• But their traffic lights timing are fixed and

switching patterns are also predefined in the

system it is independent of traffic conditions for

the different lanes and they are not changing

with real time data.

EXISTING SYSTEM
• In existing system human and Automatic
based traffic light Control system system
only mostly in use.
• Also some of the sensor based Traffic
monitoring also used
• These techniques are having huge
drawbacks.
PROPOSED SYSTEM
• The system uses video data collected of
traffic from the roads of
Karachi, Pakistan.

• Image framing would capture frames

from the video at several fixed intervals.

• For detection machine learning

algorithm, YOLO is performed over the
recent frame.

• The number of vehicles in the scene

would be calculated.

• Delay for the green light is set

accordingly.

ADVANTAGES
• Reduction in Traffic jams.

• Reduction in time wastage.

• Video log of traffic would be created at the

backend.

• Reduction in Pollution.
APPLICATIONS & FUTURE WORK
• In future it can be expanded for
priority based traffic clearance to
detect

• It will be Providing priority

emergency vehicles which will save a
lot of lives and property.

• Detection of number plates of all the

vehicles will be a useful advancement
in the system.
TENTATIVE OUTPUT
• In this project traffic signal is
controlled based on the
density of its respective road.

• This is done using Image

Processing and Machine
Learning, which causes
production costs to set low
while achieving high speed
and accuracy.
CONCLUSION
• The smart traffic management system is
designed to improve traffic conditions.
• This is an effective method for monitoring
and managing traffic intelligently.
• The algorithm is comprised of new
technologies which are trained according to
this era.
• The system is a contribution to society to
help the ones who suffer daily from traffic
congestion.
• It reduces waiting time and also CO2
emission.
