INTRODUCTION TO LADLE TURRET
What is a Ladle Turret?
A ladle turret is a rotating
mechanism used in steel
plants to hold and position
ladles filled with molten
steel.

Typically, it has two or more

arms that can rotate around
a central axis. Each arm can
hold a ladle, allowing one
ladle to be positioned over
the casting machine while
the other is being replaced
or prepared.
Purpose
Ladle turrets are crucial equipment in steel plants, used to transport and pour molten metal with precision
and efficiency. They significantly enhance safety and productivity in the steelmaking process.

Functionality
These advanced systems are automated and can rotate and
precisely pour molten metal from ladles to tundish. Ladle
turrets play a key role in controlling the flow and
distribution of molten metal.

Benefits
The use of ladle turrets results in reduced manual labor, higher production rates, and improved quality
control. They are essential for ensuring the smooth operation of modern steel foundries.

The base structure of the ladle turret serves as the foundation for the entire system, providing
stability and support.

Swivel Mechanism
The swivel mechanism enables the ladle turret to rotate smoothly, allowing for
precise pouring and positioning during operations.

Ladle Holding Arm

The ladle holding arm securely grips the ladle, ensuring safe transportation and pouring of
molten metal.
Parts of Ladle Turret
Lifting Cylinder
The hydraulic cylinders are arranged inside the portal frame between the lifting arms and the top main frame by axial bearings
and work independently of one another.

Rotation unit and encoder group

The arms rotation takes place by mean of a drive unit composed of a hydraulic motor with disk brake coupling, a planetary gear box
and a pinion. The turret is rotated by a pinion meshing with the external gear of the thrust bearing

Ladle Lid Manipulator

The ladle turret has two ladle lids to cover the ladles on the turret. The system comprises two independent manipulators to
handle the ladle cover on the two axes (vertical and swing)

Maintenance Guidelines
Regular Inspections
Frequent inspections should be conducted to identify any signs of wear and tear, allowing for
timely repairs and replacements.

Lubrication Schedule
A consistent lubrication schedule must be maintained to ensure smooth operation of
moving parts and prevent friction-related issues.

Cleaning Procedures
Periodic cleaning of the ladle turret components is essential to remove debris and
contaminants that could affect performance.
