BIJAPUR STYLE
This style emerged in Bijapur under the reign of Adil Shahis in 14 century.
Well developed and elegant structures were built in Bijapur. A definite
and different order of construction was seen.
Very rare use of pillars was seen.
The typical Bijapur arch is four centered.
The most remarkable feature in the facade is the inclined cornice or
chajja supported by brackets.
The architecture was inspired from Turkish and Persian Architecture.
GOL
It is the tomb if Mohammed Adil Shah, built in 1626 AD.

The south door is the main entrance to the tomb.

The dome consists of horizontal layer of bricks with layer of mortar
between them.
ENTRY

The structure is composed of a cube, 47 5M


on each side .
The walls are 3M thick.
At the four corners are done capped towers
with octagonal plan and 7 storey high.
There are eight arches supporting the
dome in pendentive style.
Inside the hall is
a square podium
with steps on
each side.
The real grave is
belowthe ground.

MINARET
JAMI MASJID (1570)
Built during the reign of Ali Adil Shah.
The structure was not competed due to
Mughal invasion.
This structure also features pointed arch
The interior of the mosque has refined
clean lines with minimal decorative
elements.
The mosque can accommodate 4000
people at a time.
The mosque shows connection to Brahmani style.
The structure is 455ft × 225ft.
The main courtyard is a square of side 155ft.
Eight arches support the dome.

B

The entrance gateway is known as


AURANGZEB gate.
IBRAHIM RAUZA (1580)
It is the tomb of Ibrahim Adil Shah.
The building consists of a tomb and a
mosque within a square enclosure.
The tomb building follows the
conventional plan, comprising a central
chamber surrounded by an arched
verandah, the whole surmounted by a
dome.
Tall minar-shaped turrets rise from
each corner of the building.
The entire structure is profusely ornamented, especially the outer wall of
which every part is covered with ornamental carving.
MOSQU
E The whole complex lies on a square
ground of side 450ft.
The tomb is on a 115ft side square.
The other two main buildings stand
on a podium 360ft × 150ft.
POO The two buildings are different in shape
but have been balanced in symmetry.
L The architecture is similar to Turks.
