THE GAME PLAN

TU mma

(su
“Prep Mantra” for minimum prep:

TO ris
OM L 1
(1) General structure of a topic first, before details (e.g. headings & subheadings first)
1. Prepare (2) Identify hardest questions before lecture/prac!
(3) treat Pracs as the endpoint for topic, not the start!

Be engaged! you’re in the driver’s seat!

(1) Ask questions, seek clarification and advice ASAP!
(2) Take handwritten notes in your own concise words (sticks in your brain better)
2. Participate (3) Bring your completed paper notes to the prac to keep working on
Be engaged! you’re in the driver’s seat! (5) Discuss with others
(1) Etymology (word roots) helps! (6) Teach eachother
(2) Structure-function links & visualisation (7) Anatomical models in BSL (24/7!)
(3) Cross reference (lecture – prac – textbook - online resources) (8) Boil things down (diagrams, tables, dot points)
3. Integrate (4) Explore – look stuff up (9) Mnemonics
Don’t fall behind (hard to cram) – Don’t stress – fix problems ASAP!
4. Keep Up (1) “Spaced repetition” end of day, end of week, a few weeks later & before exam
(2) boil down lectures to one page summaries of dot points
(3) Self test – dot points, one page summaries from memory? 4
5. Revise (4) Online resources to review and self test
Some exam marking rules:
1. Don’t use abbreviations! Prac exam “spotter questions”
(in musculoskeletal system, in this course) 1. part A & B marked independently
unless you define it first fully spelled out 2. don’t switch answers A & B! (double check
e.g.: pins!)  0 marks
“anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)”
3. don’t include multiple answers (shows you
2. Spelling:
don’t know which is correct)
1 letter error OK, 2 letters maybe
3 or more letters - ½ mark 4. Identify bone vs identify feature/structure
3. Be careful of similar terms: 5. look out for “be specific”
“coronoid process” vs “coracoid process” 6. incomplete answer may get ½ mark, but
“trochlea” vs “trochlear notch” specifically wrong answer = 0 marks
“condyle” vs “epicpondyle” 5
