Solar system

By Gnandeep Komaragiri!!!!
Formation of the solar system
• 5 billion years ago, a nebula - a cloud of gas and dust particles. For us this
was the beginning of the solar system we know. This Nebula was reaching
the end of its long life and so it exploded creating a supernova which
released dust and rock particles which grouped together by gravity. As its
mass increased the gravitational force increased causing large planets to
have a high gravitational force than smaller planets.
Terrestrial planets- they
have solid ground.
Gas giants- they have no
solid ground; made of
liquid and gas.

 All have rings and have

the most moons
compared to terrestrial
planets
Mercury
• Orbit: 88 days(fastest planet)
• Distance from sun: 36 million miles
• Radius-2,440 km
• Moon number:0
• No seasons – spin uprights
• No atmosphere - can’t absorb heat
Venus
• Orbit: 225 days
• Distance from sun: 67 million miles
• Radius-6,052 km
• Moon number:0
• Generate high pressure- heavy atmosphere
• Covered with volcanoes
• Hottest planet- atmosphere consist of
carbon dioxide, nitrogen and other gases
which traps lots of heat preventing it to
escape.
Earth
• Orbit: 365 days
• Distance from sun: 93 million miles
• Radius-6,378 km
• Moon number:1
• Supports life- perfect distance from sun
• Seasons are caused by its tilt
• Atmosphere controls climate and
protects us from solar radiation and
astroids
Mars
• Orbit: 687 days
• Distance from sun: 142 million miles
• Radius-3,390 km
• Moon number:2
• Red surface – Iron oxide
• Prone to dust storms
• Olympus mons is the largest volcano
in solar system.
Jupiter
• Orbit: 4,333 days
• Largest planet- generate high pressure
and temperature deep down
• Distance from sun: 484 million miles
• Radius-69,911 km
• Moon number:95
• Consist of mainly hydrogen and helium
• The great red spot are bundle of clouds
that circulate at speeds faster than any
storm on earth.
Saturn
• Orbit: 10,759 days
• Has noticeable rings- made of ice and
rock
• The lightest planet- can float on water
• Distance from sun: 886 million miles
• Radius-58,232 km
• Moon number:146
Uranus
• Orbit: 30,687 days
• Distance from sun: 1.8 billion miles
• Radius-15,881.63 km
• Moon number:28
• Extreme seasons due it’s tilt- the pole
receives sulight while the rest is
hidden in darkness(winter)
• First planet to be discovered by
telescope
Neptune
• Orbit: 60,190 days
• Distance from sun: 2.8 billion miles
• Radius-15387.64 km
• Moon number:14
• The windiest and coldest planet
• It’s blue due to methane.
