MECHANISM OF ACTION
 It inhibits ovulation but not
consistent.
 It thickens the cervical mucus
to prevent sperm entry.
 It changes the lining of the
uterus to inhibit implantation of
the fertilized ovum
It reduces sperm motility.
ADVANTAGES
 Easy and convenient.
 Does not interrupt coitus
 Reduces the chances of
getting ovarian cyst
 Easily reversible and return to
fertility is rapid.
DISADVANTAGES
 For the tablet, it can be easily
forgotten.
 May cause some side effects
like headache, nausea and
spotting.
 Does not protect against STIs
