Conclusion
Purposes of the Review
• To identify and rectify concerns with the current RATP in regard
to:
– Significant gaps in core and/or fundamental knowledge
– The coherence, alignment and progression of content (knowledge,
skills, values and attitudes) within and across phases;
– Content overload or unnecessary repetition across subjects and
grades;
– The appropriateness of the learning activities/ content included in the
RATP
– The alignment of the suggested informal assessment activities in the
RATP with the content and intended learning outcomes
– The alignment of the formal assessment tasks with the latest SBA
revisions ;
– Identify a minimum package of resources per subject/ phase
Guiding Principles underpinning the Arts to provide:
• Guidelines to teachers on how to plan timetable to
navigate Performing Arts and Visual Arts.
• Evidence of process work: examples of tasks to
demonstrate the journey towards the final artwork.
• Learners to have opportunity to self-assess using rubric,
to interrogate rubric for self-assessment. Teachers to
mediate rubric with learners, i.e. integrate teaching,
learning and assessment.
• IP & SP Workbook: evidence for and of learning, showing
the process towards the final product in line with FET
sourcebook and journals.
• Articulation from IP to SP and to FET as well as duplicating
the nature in which the practical task is presented

• Creative Arts: learning is both circular and linear, the same topics are repeated throughout the
year, and in each subsequent year, with increasing complexity.
It takes a long time to build skills and it requires regular practice.

• The main principle and approach to the reduction of content was to identify repetition of skills and
concepts.

• All topics were covered, but repetition of certain skills and content is omitted.
