Q.1) Was there any mistake in the recruitment and selection process of Mr. Mishra?

Solution
In this particular case, the recruitment and selection process of Nr. Mishra is quite apt as this is on the basis of : Reference of the M.D of Vindhya Steel Limited. His past experience with him as a colleague. His growth as he was promoted to the post of Executive Director in a short span of 30 years.(when joined was a management trainee at Cochin Steels Limited). His Experience in the Steel industry.

Q.2) What H.R steps should have been taken to avoid the situation?

Solution
As H.R chief of the plant,Col. Kalra was himself not adopting the right approach which an H.R person should adopt rather he was: Intending to be the Director (Operations) being very close to the promoters. During open house sessions, his reality was reavealed when Mr. Mishra came to know that the employees at the plant were highly dissatisfied due to H.R function of the plant.

So,this all should had been avoided by the adoption of strict good practices by the management. Management/M.D should had noticed the importance of Mr. Mishra who brought 30% growth in just six months and should had look into the matter rather than simply listening to their well known H.R chief i.e Col. Kalra. Mr. Mishra should had been allowed to speak regarding the change or his posting.
