Course Revisions
Intel Teach Essentials Course v.10 draws on content from the
Intel Education Designing Effective Projects and Assessing Projects.

The course has been shortened to eight modules. Participants are required to complete only one student samplea
presentation, publication, or web-based resource (wiki or blog)so rather than three modules for student samples, there is only one.

Activities for exploring the instructional uses of emerging Web

technologies for social networking and communication, such as blogs and wikis, have been integrated throughout the course.

PBL vs. Activity Based Learning

Example Themes Pollution Activity Based Instruction
Complete different activities that show effects of different kinds of pollution. Identify components of each.

Project Based Learning

Identify pollution problems in the community. Form a task force to investigate the problems and devise technically feasible solutions for each.

Differences between the two

The activity-based tasks are just that individual tasks with no connections between the individual activities and no real world connection. The Project based approach defines an overarching challenge and inserts these tasks in a meaningful community project. The students may still complete the activities, and identify components of each, but then they use this information when devising solutions.

Social bookmarking
It allows you to save and annotate

Traditional Online Bookmarking

It is very similar to the favorites or bookmarks you keep on your computer, except that you can access them from any Internet-connected computer. You can usually import your current computer-based favorites so you can access them online. For examples: Yahoo! Bookmarks: http://bookmarks.yahoo.com Ikeepbookmarks: http://www.ikeepbookmarks.com

Web sites you want to find later, but also makes it easy to share and "tag" Web sites with key words. These tags are used to categorize and organize your favorite Web sites; then other users can take these bookmarks and add them to their own collection. It is also like a search engine, except that it only searches entries on its database that other people have recommended (or tagged). Usually these resources have a toolbar you can install on your web browser for quick saving of resources. For examples: Blinklist: www.blinklist.com del.icio.us: http://del.icio.us Diigo: www.diigo.com
