TRACTIONS

TRACTOR BA KAMO?

DESCRIPTION
Is the application of a straightening or pulling force to return or maintain the fractured bones in normal anatomic position

CLASSIFICATIONS Skin Tractions Skeletal Tractions

SKIN TRACTION
An option to provide temporary comfort in hip fractures and certain childrens fractures Force generally not to exceed 10 lb. Can cause soft tissue problems, especially in elderly patients

BUCKS TRACTION
Pull is exerted on the lower extremity with a system of ropes, weights, and pulleys. Buck's traction, which may be unilateral or bilateral, is used to immobilize, position, and align the lower extremity in the treatment of contractures and diseases of the hip and knee.

RUSSELS TRACTION
a unilateral or a bilateral orthopedic mechanism that combines suspension and traction to immobilize, position, and align the lower extremities in the treatment of fractured femurs, hip and knee contractures, and disease processes of the hip and knee.

CERVICAL TRACTION

PELVIC TRACTION

SKELETAL TRACTION
It is the application of a pulling force through placement of pins into the bone. The client receives a local anesthetic , and the pin is inserted in a twisting motion into the bone This type of traction should be applied in a sterile condition because of the risk of infection one or more pulling force is may be applied

ADVANTAGES/ DISADVANTAGES OF SKELETAL TRACTIONS

Advantage: more weight can be used to maintain the proper anatomic alignment if necessary Disadvantage: increased anxiety, increased risk of infection, increased discomfort

BRYANTS TRACTION
Bryant's traction is mainly used in young children who have fractures of the femur or congenital abnormalities of the hip. Both the patient's limbs are suspended in the air vertically at a ninety degree angle from the hips and knees slightly flexed. Over a period of days, the hips are gradually moved outward from the body using a pulley system. The patient's body provides the counter-traction.

DUNLOPS SKELETAL TRACTION

an orthopedic mechanism that helps immobilize the upper arm in the treatment of contracture or supracondylar fracture of the elbow. The mechanism uses a system of traction weights, pulleys, and ropes and may be accompanied by skin traction. Dunlop skeletal traction is usually applied unilaterally but may also be applied bilaterally

PLASTER TRACTIONS
Plaster traction is skeletal reaction applied by incorporating the ends of pins or wires in a cast that maintains a continuous pulling force. For example, when a short arm cast with skeletal traction on the thumb is used for correction of a first metacarpal fracture.
