Training & its importance in organizations

What is Training& Development?


It is a process that involves the acquisition of knowledge, sharpening of skills, or changing of attitudes and behavior to enhance the performance of employees. OR Training is about knowing where you stand at present, and where you will be after some point of time. Training refers to improving competencies needed today or very soon. Development refers to activities intended to improve competencies over a long period of time.

Importance of Training and development:


Optimum utilization of human resources: Training and development helps in optimizing utilization of human resource that further helps the employee to achieve the organizational goals as well as their individual goals. Development of human resources:T&D helps to provide an opportunity and broad structure for the development of human resources technical and behavioral skills in an organization. It also helps the employees in attaining personal goals.

Challenge faced before training and development of its employees


The year 2002 posed major challenges to the operations of the company. The major challenge were reducing its cost of operations, enhancing sales volumes and improving the overall productivity of the organization. The companys management analyzed the problems and found that staff and workers were not interacting to understand the problems in process flows. supervisors were not interacting with the top management to take immediate remedial measures in manufacturing. staff participation was nominal.

The company found that training programmed is necessary to equip its employees with the modern technology. Thus the company introduced a training programmed with the help of national productivity organization, Pakistan and thus the company succeeded in overcoming those challenges.

Silver foods company instituted a system of rewards and incentives for human resource. On achievement of targets, cash prizes are given. Best performance certificates are given on annual basis. To enhance motivation and interaction among the staff, frequent samosa and cake parties are organized. A training policy has been defined and regular training programmes are organized for all levels of employees.
