History
Origin of the word Robot Robots in the Media Robots as Toys Robots in Industry
The word robot was first used more than 60 years ago by Karel Capek, a Czechoslovakian writer, in his play R.U.R., or Rossums Universal Robots. He derived robot from the Czech word robota, which means drudgery or compulsory labor. All of the work in the mechanistic world Capek created was done by these creatures.
