Unisys 64-bit ES7000 Architecture Features - Memory

High Performance Memory Architecture Supports Expanded Memory Physical and Virtual Large Flat Virtual Memory Space Performance boost for Windows kernel and applications Eliminates 32-bit PAE/AWE Mapping/Un-mapping Overhead
1. Allocate physical pages 2. Allocate Virtual Address window 3. Associate VA window with subset of physical pages

Reduces Virtual-to-physical address translation cache (TLB) misses AWE not needed for application access to > 4GB physical memory Up to 4 way memory interleave Allows parallel memory access Low latency memory access vs. traditional NUMA

Low Latency for High Performance

Access Latency - Lower is Better

Mass Storage Traditional NUMA Memory

ES7000/400 Memory

Unisys 64-bit ES7000 Architecture Features I/O

Up to Two I/O Hubs for Large Configurations
Up to 64 PCI or PCI-X channels Supports 33MHz, 66MHz, 100Mhz and 133Mhz PCI cards

High Sustained Throughput

Measured almost 5GBytes/sec (large block sequential read) Enhanced read performance due to data pre-fetch Uniform DMA latency for fast, predictable I/O performance

Supports Microsofts Multi-path I/O (MPIO) for improved I/O performance

Eliminates the need to move data between nodes I/O sub-system optimizes for single or multiple paths

On January 20 Unisys published a new TPC-C benchmark. The ES7000 achieved the best performance of any 16-processor server ever tested using the transaction processing intensive, TPC-C benchmark. 309,036.53 transactions per minute (tpmC) at $4.49 per transaction (tpmC), the server also scored the best price/performance of any server with more than four processors.

Unisys The leader in price/performance

Speaking of the real world, big HP and IBM boxes are overkill for many IT shops, and small configurations of the 16way ES7000 "Aries" Itanium servers from Unisys are definitely in the running for the 64-bit enterprise server money. . On price/performance, Unisys cleans HP's and IBM's clocks.
