What is M3UA

M3UAMTP3-User Adaptation LayerVia it, the SS7 signaling network is combined with MTP3 seamlessly and is extended to the IP network from the SCN network smoothly so that equipments in the IP network are able to

provide services to the SS7 user part without the SS7 physical layer, data link layer, and network layer.

Terminology of M3UA

Application ServerA logical entity serving a specific Routing Key. An example of an Application Server is a virtual switch element handling all call processing for a unique range of PSTN trunks, identified by an SS7 SIO/DPC/OPC/CIC_range Application Server ProcessA process instance of an Application Server. An Application Server Process serves as an active or backup process of an Application Server.

6

Terminology of M3UA

Routing KeyA Routing Key describes a set of SS7 parameters and parameter values that uniquely define the range of signalling traffic to be handled by a particular Application Server.
Routing ContextA value that uniquely identifies a Routing Key.

Transfer Messages

Used to transfer SS7 user messages M3UA on the SG side has MTP-3 user messages encapsulated in this message and transmit; M3UA on the SOFTSWITCH side then takes the data out and transfers to upper-layer users via the UP- MTP- 3 interface so that smooth extension from the SS7 signaling network to the IP network can be realized.
