PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM CONDUCTED AT NATIONAL ENGINEERING INDUSTRIES LTD.

INTRODUCTION
Company profile: National engineering industries ltd., the renowned industrialist, late shri B.M. Birla, under the name of National Bearing Company Limited , founded at jaipur in the year 1946 as a pioneer industry in the field of bearing manufacture.

Performance management system (pms): Performance management includes activities that ensure that goals are consistently are being met in an effective and efficient manner. Pms at NEI ltd., have components like performance planning, monitoring, review, and development through involvement of the appraisee.

OBJECTIVES
To study performance management techniques at NEI Ltd. To identify the drawbacks of performance appraisal system that are overcome by the new system of performance that is PMS. To find out the satisfaction level of the employees.

RESEARCH AND METHODOLOGY


Research Research is science and a systematic sewarch for pertinent information on a particular topic. Sources of data Primary data source - responses to questionnaire and interviews conducted with manager, supervisor of all department of the company. Secondary data source different books on the human resource.

DATA ANALYSIS & INTERPRETATION


Facts & findings: NEI ltd. Uses the modern techniques like 360 degree and management by objectives for the pms. Majority of the employees are satisfied with their performance and their performance appraisal. Many employees says that counselling method should be used after completion of appraisal cycle.

CONCLUSION & SUGGESTIONS


Conclusion: Management need to appraise the performance in order to take the decision regarding the rewarding the employee in order to motivate him or taking the corrective actions. Earlier marking system was used and promotion was the only reward provided. Employees were dissatisfied with it. PMS bought into practise in 2004. It facilitates two way communication.

Suggestions: The PMS should provide sufficient scope to the employee for acomplishment of their group objective along with their individual objective. The manual way of filling the form should be replaced by online way of filling the form. In the PMS potential of the candidate identified should correlates with the work requirements. Evaluation should be conducted half yearly.
