1.Higher studies :
One can take up higher studies either in India or abroad depending upon his/her interest . Again there are two options if you prepare higher studies i.e. Engineering &management.

1.1 Higher studies in INDIA :

a)Engineering :

Higher studies in engineering leading to M.Tech/M.S degree can be taken up after getting qualified in an all India level entrance test known as GATE(Graduate Aptitude Testing In Engineering) . The examination takes place in February ever year .Admissions to prestigious Institutions like IIT,IISC,NITS and other university colleges will be made based on the percentage score obtained in this examination.

b) Management :
Management is one of the lucrative and challenging careers and mostly candidates with engineering background are preferred for these posts.

i .Indian Institutes of Management ( IIMS ) : IIMS are the most prestigious institutes in the management education in India and offer variety of courses in management . There are 4 IIMS in India located in Bangalore , Ahmadabad ,Calcutta and Lucknow. Admissions to these institutes are made through CAT(Common Admission Test) which is held in December every year .

ii .Other Entrances :

Other universities in India conduct their own entrance tests for admissions .

iii .NITIE : National Institute of Industrial Engineering ,Mumbai is one of the prestigious institutes of our country offering post graduate diploma in Industrial Engineering

iv .National Productivity Council : National productivity council is offering training and promotional activities in Industrial Engineering(IE) ,plant Engineering(PEP) and Industrial pollution prevention and control(IPPC).

1.2 .HIGHER STUDIES ABROAD : Every year thousands of students go abroad for higher studies particularly in USA .There are over 3300 accredited colleges and universities in the United states offering a wide range of programmes at different level. Canada and Australia also attracting large number of Indian graduates.

A).UNITED STATES : The American academic year is approximately 32 weeks long and usually begins late August and late September . It is divided into terms of various lengths ,depending upon the Institution . The examinations to be taken for getting admitted into these courses are TOEFL , GRE and GMAT. Generally US institutions require that international students whose first language is not English to take the TOEFL(Test of English as foreign Language) . A scale of above 550 in TOEFL is required for getting admission to graduate programmes. The examination is being conducted at many centers in India . Most of the US universities need Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores .This examination is conducted four times in a year in India .(GRECBT ,TOEFLCBT)

B) . CANADA :

Canada is another country which offers programmes for higher studies. In most Canadian Universities ,the academic year is divided into fall session (sept-dec) and the winter session( jan-mar ). The process of applying should start 12 -18 months prior to the session for which one wishes to get enrolled . All Canadian Universities require proof of proficiency in English . For this the TOEFL score may be used . Some universities may require proficiency in French. In addition , the GRE and GMAT may be required. It is important to correspond directly with the office of Dean of Graduate studies in each university . For universities falling in the province of Ontario ,the request must be mailed to Ontario Universities Application centre Po1328 Guelph, Ontario NI47PL

C) .AUSTRALIA :

Australia Universities also offer facilities for higher education courses offered in Australia are similar to American and Canadian counter parts . details can be had from :

2 .PUBLIC SECTOR UNDER TAKINGS :

These companies recruit fresh graduates as management trainees and graduate trainees . The major public sector under takings are

The recruitment procedure consists of a written test ,Group Discussions and Personal Interview .

3 .government service :
3.1 .Indian Engineering Services : Indian Engineering services (IES) are deemed to be the most prestigious Government services . The services are categorized into two types . Group - A and Group - B

3.2 .Defense services : A) .INDIAN AIR FORCE ( IAF ) : Indian Air force is the back bone of our countrys defense . An engineer enters the Air force in the rank of pilot officer and is directly involved with engineering activities . There are two modes of entry .

University entry scheme :

Under this scheme ,the candidates are selected to join Aeronautical Engineering branch for permanent commission or short service commission while in pre-final/final year of their engineering course . They will be paid a stipend approximately Rs 2,300/- for permanent commission for the period of their final years stay in the college .the short service commission candidates get a stipend of Rs 1150/- per month .

Age limit : 18 to 28 years Educational &Qualification :Pre- final or final year engineer. Entrance :Applications are called once in year through Medical Fitness :As per the standards laid down. newspapers.

Direct entry scheme : 1.Aeronautical Engineering (Electronic) : (PC &SSC) 2.Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical) : (PC &SSC)

Entrance : Advertisements for direct entry scheme are released in June and October of every year . Advertisement for university entry scheme is released in July month of every year .

Entrance : Air force selection boards located at Dehradun ,Varanasi or Mysore. The candidates are called to appear for selection test on a particular date and time of the any one of the above boards .The screening test will be conducted to check the officer intelligence rating test and engineering Knowledge test .

The personality test :

i) ii) iii) Psychological test. Group test. Inter view.

B) .ARMY :
Engineering graduates are recruited into the following technical Arms and service s of Indian Army into rank of Lieutenant i) Corps of Engineers ii) Corps of Signals iii) Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers iv) Armor med corps v) Artillery

The selection procedure will be similar to that of Air force .Training will be at Dehradun or Madras .

C) .NAVY : Both short service commissions and permanent commissions available. candidates will be called at Bangalore or Bhopal which is followed by medical examination .

3.3 .Other services : Recruitment to other government services like telecom department , industries etc.. will be done by UPSC. Some organizations like defense Research Development organization (DRDO) and Bharat Atomic Research Center (BARC) recruit engineering graduates as scientists almost every year .

3.4 .Railway Recruitment Board : Railway recruitment boards will recruit engineers as Apprentice Foremen or Trainee Junior engineers depending upon requirement .A degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics Engg is essential .The recruitment will be made through a written test and interview . 3.5 .State Government services : a) b) c) d) Industrial Promotion Offices(IPO)through APPSC Assistant Director of Industries Export Promotion Officers Assistant Executive engineers

4 .public Service :
4.1 .Civil Services (All India Basis) : IAS ,IPS

4.2 .Group-I services(A.P State) : Deputy collectors Deputy Superintendent of Police

6 .Placement Services :
Recent the concept of taking the assistance of placement services is gaining momentum .there are good placement services are available in all major cities .

7 .Entrepreneurship :

With the liberalization of Indian economy and Industry, persons interested in entrepreneurship are very much encouraged and assisted to set up their own industry .Many preemptions ,relaxations are given to new industries to encourage healthy competition in private sector .Loans are provided by the government/banks/financial institutions in this regard . A detailed survey is essential before selecting and setting up of any particular

industry .
