That Daily Dump is not going to change the world but it can make a difference.

What I liked about this venture is these women are not as popular or as big as the earlier entrepreneurs we discussed . But they are unique in their own way and very effective

The Social Women Entrepreneur

In 1972 she founded the Self-Employed Womens Association (SEWA), a trade union for women workers in Indias huge informal sector, who make up 94 per cent of the female labour force and yet have never enjoyed the same rights and security as those in formal employment. Today SEWA has more than 1.2 million members across nine Indian states.

she has dedicated her life to improving the lives of Indias poorest and most oppressed women workers.

SEWA is both an organisation and a movement

SEWA Services: Sewa Bank Health care Child care Sewa insurance Legal services Housing and infrastructure Capacity building of Sewa members

SEWA Movements: Cooperatives DWCRA (rural producers) Groups Social security organizations Savings and credit groups Federations confluence of three movements : the labour movement, the cooperative movement and the womens movement. But it is also a movement of self-employed workers : their own, homegrown movement with women as the leaders. Through their own movement women become strong and visible

She was granted an honorary Doctorate degree in Humane Letters by Harvard University in June 2001.

her determination to empower rural & under privileged women is highly admirable
