Aspects of development
Presented by: Rohit Sharma

Human development: Human Development is about expanding the choices people have, to lead lives that they value and improving the human condition so that people will get the chance to lead full lives. And it is thus about much more than economic growth, which is only a means if a very important one of enlarging peoples choices

Social development: or Social change, is the phrase that refers to the alteration of social order within a society. It may also refer to the notion of socio-cultural evolution, or social progress. This is the philosophical idea that society always moves forward by dialectical means, or evolutionary means. It can be referred as particular paradigmatic change within the socioeconomic structure. Say for example, this could be a movement away from feudalism, and a movement towards capitalism. Its essentially a huge change in how society works in one area, en masse.

Economic development: A process that influences growth and restructuring of an economy to enhance the economic well being of a community. In the broadest sense, economic development encompasses three major areas: Policies that government undertakes to meet broad economic objectives including inflation control, high employment and sustainable growth. Policies and programs to provide services including building highways, managing parks and providing medical access to the disadvantaged. Policies and programs explicitly directed at improving the business climate through specific efforts, business finance, marketing, neighborhood development, business retention and expansion, technology transfer, real estate development and others. The main goal of economic development is improving the economic well being of a community through efforts that entail job creation, job retention, tax base enhancements and quality of life.

Development was, at that point in time, a process that had to be implemented on the third world by the first world. 1970: emphasis on basic human need (focus of development away from purely economic growth to the distribution of economic growth) 1980: international and national institutions making decisions on behalf of large populations to more decentralized and participatory methods of creating development policy. These were increasingly more cognizant of gender and ecological issues. By the 1990s: most economies had liberalized 3/26/12 and allowed less state control in economic

Thus, as we stand now, development is still seen as a process that has to be applied on third world countries. This is a large shift from the original process envisioned in the 1950s, and is much more inclusive and equitable.
