I told dem I would treat dem good And wear dem back to back, I promised dem protection From a friend who is a mac, Me trousers did not believe a single word I had to say, And me underpants were laughing When me trousers ran away.

'The trouble with snowmen,' Said my father one year 'They are no sooner made than they just disappear. I'll build you a snowman And I'll build it to last Add sand and cement And then have it cast. And so every winter,' He went on to explain 'You shall have a snowman Be it sunshine or rain.' And that snowman still stands Though my father is gone Out there in the garden Like an unmarked gravestone.

Staring up at the house Gross and misshapen As if waiting for something Bad to happen. For as the years pass And I grow older When summers seem short And winters colder. The snowmen I envy As I watch children play Are the ones that are made And then fade away.

The Trouble With Snowmen Roger McGough

THE RIVER by Valerie Bloom The rivers a wanderer, a nomad, a tramp. He doesnt choose any one place to set up his camp. The rivers a winder, through valley and hill. He twists and he turns, he just cannot be still. The rivers a hoarder and he buries down deep Those little treasures that he wants to keep. The rivers a baby, he gurgles and hums And sounds like hes happily sucking his thumbs. The rivers a singer, as he dances along The countryside echoes the notes of his song. The rivers a monster, hungry and vexed Hes gobbled up trees and hell swallow you next.
