Walter Gropius along with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier is regarded as the pioneering masters of modern architecture. Gropius almost single handedly transformed the Grand-Ducal Saxon School of Arts and Crafts into the Bauhaus school. Gropius door handles are considered an icon of 2oth century design.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

1886-1969

He wanted to establish a new architectural style that would represent modern times just as classic and gothic did in their own eras. During his early career he worked with Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier where he was exposed to current design theories and progressive German culture.

INFLUENCES
On Architecture:
This particular form of style was far ahead of its time and it gave rise to different styles like cubism and purism

INFLUENCES
Modern movement was developed at the Bauhaus. The most famous ideas were functionalism where it gave shape to the modern movement.

At that time people were impressed with the power of machines and what they can do for functionalism.

INFLUENCES
Bauhaus was not confined to buildings alone but also gave rise to an unique style of household furniture.

The function of a product is considered before beauty. The picture of the teapot shows its function without much aesthetics.

INFLUENCES
The stylistic implications and association also inspired a musical rock band going by the same name. Bauhaus also published periodicals and magazines

INFERENCES
The Bauhaus movement paved the way for modernist architecture. It became an international style for a good reason because people all across the globe unified through this style of architecture. These are simple but still beautiful in the world.
