DATA MINING AND INFORMATION ANALYSIS

Purpose
The unit will provide the learner with the theoretical concepts and practical applications of data mining (Knowledge Discovery) as a unique approach to the analysis of data and its facilitation in the extraction of hidden predictive information from large complex databases; and presentation of the same.

At the end of the course, the learner should be able to: Describe and appreciate the nature and purpose of data mining and analysis Explain the basic statistical concepts related to data mining and analysis Describe the various data mining and analysis techniques Describe the theoretical constructs and core processes of data mining Describe the role of data mining and analysis in the health and health research

Describe and apply regression analysis to understand relationships between variables and to interpret, evaluate and present results Describe the predictive modelling functions of data mining and understand the types and characteristics of predictive models.

Describe the potential applications of data mining in health i.e. decision support, accountability, resource allocation, and quality improvement initiatives. Describe and apply data mining software tools to analyze sample data and develop predictive models and be able to compare and evaluate the accuracy of predictive models Describe the various methods of data presentation

TELEHEALTH

Purpose
The courses primary objective is to impart students with knowledge in telehealth and understand the various principles, technologies and applications of telehealth systems in health care delivery

At the end of the unit, the learner should be able to: Describe the concept of telehealth Describe the generic architecture of telehealth systems and the communication systems that support them. Describe the various types of telehealth Describe the clinical, technical, educational and business aspects of telehealth
