Introduction to NGN

Next generation network is a packet based network able to provide telecommunication services and able to make use of multiple broadband,QoS enable transport technologies and in which services related function are independent from transport.

5/18/12

Horizontally-integrated Network

The rapid convergence of telecom. and internet technologies has lead to the integration of vertical networks into multi-service ornext generation networks that provide reliable and real-time communications for all services.

Computer Telephony integration

There are two automated telephone systems.

Private branch exchange (PBX). Centrex systems.

PB X

A PBX is an internal telephone network. Users share a certain number of lines for making telephone calls outside the company. A PBX system allows calls to come in to the company from external telephone lines. A PBX is less expensive than connecting an external telephone line to every telephone in an organization. 5/18/12

Centrex system

In a Centrex system, a pool of telephone lines is leased at the phone companys central office. In this system, the telephone company owns and houses the equipment at their location. This service is easy to set up, upgrade, and is highly reliable. It has fewer features 5/18/12 many PBX than

TCP/IP Model
The internet protocol suite is the set of communication protocols used for the internet and generally the most popular protocol stack for wide area networks it is commonly known as TCP/IP. It provides end to end connectivity specifying how data should be formatted, addressed, transmitted, routed and received.it has four layer. 1 Application layer. 2 Transport layer. 3 Internet Layer.
5/18/12

5/18/12

Application Layer
The application layer contains the higher-level protocols used by most applications for network communication. Examples of application layer protocols include the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) and the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP).

Transport Layer The transport layer

establishes host-to-host connectivity, meaning it handles the details of data transmission that are independent of the structure of user data and the logistics of exchanging information for any particular specific purpose. Its responsibility includes end-to-end message transfer independent of the underlying network, along with error control, segmentation, flow control, 5/18/12 congestion control, and application addressing

Internet layer
The internet layer has the responsibility of sending packets across potentially multiple networks. Internetworking requires sending data from the source network to the destination network. This process is called routing

Network This layer Layer defines the networking methods within the
scope of the local network link on which hosts communicate without intervening routers. This layer describes the protocols used to describe the local network topology and the interfaces needed to affect transmission of Internet layer 5/18/12 datagrams to next-

IPv 4
IPv4 is described in September 1981. IPv4 uses 32-bit (four-byte) addresses, which limits the address space to 4294967296 (232) addresses. IPv4 is a connectionless protocol for use on packet-switched Link Layer networks (e.g., Ethernet). Ex. 192.234.14.0

IPv6 was developed by the

An IPv6 address is represented by 8 groups of 16-bit hexadecimal values separated by colons (:). For example: 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:00 00:8a2e:0370:7334

Conclusion
Vision for the Next Generation Internet:
In the 21st Century, the Internet will provide a powerful and versatile environment for business, education, culture, and entertainment. Sight, sound, and even touch will be integrated through powerful computers, displays, and networks. People will use this environment 5/18/12 to work, bank, study, shop, entertain, and
