Understanding What Motor Vehicle is Evolution of Motor Vehicle Understanding Motor Vehicle Engine and Its Performance
At one time, the word, "Engine" (from Latin, via old French, ingenium, "ability") meant any piece of machinerya sense that persists in expressions such as siege engine The first vehicle to move under its own power for which there is a record was designed by Nicholas Joseph Cugnot and constructed by M. Brezin in 1769.

The engine or power unit is usually housed at the front of the vehicle and may run on petrol, diesel or certain other types of fuel.
Purpose Is to provide the power necessary to drive the road wheels and certain ancillary equipments.

Petrol engine
The petrol engine incorporate four major systems which are briefly described as follows:

The diesel engine operates on a similar cycle to the petrol engine but has a modified fuel system and doe s not required spark to ignite mixture.
Diesel Engine
The internal combustion engine gets its name from the fact that its derive its power from burning mixture of petrol and air internally in a confined space.
Engines are constructed to have the following number of cylinders: Two (2) for some motorcycle. Four (4) Six (6) Eight (8) Twelve(12) Sixteen(16)

The cylinder block consists of two main components, the cylinder bock contains number of cylinders and the crankcase. These two components are generally in one piece but in some engines they may be secure together by bolts. The block provide some method of carrying away surplus heat either by means of a water jacket or metal fins in the case of air-cooled engine.

The
flywheel is a disc-shaped mass of metal, which is fitted, to the rear end of the crankshaft. Its main purpose is to store part of the energy from the power stroke and, by its own momentum, continue to rotate the crankshaft until the next power stroke. The piston is thus carried over its non-firing strokes. In addition it helps the crankshaft to rotate more smoothly.

circumference of the flywheel is usually marked to show the relative position of the piston in the cylinder. When the mark on the flywheel. This is for timing the ignition and valves.
A chassis consists of an internal framework that supports a man-made object. It is analogous to an animal's skeleton. An example of a chassis is the under part of a motor vehicle, consisting of the frame (on which the body is mounted) with the wheels and machinery.
A motor vehicle or road vehicle is a selfpropelled wheeled vehicle that does not operate on rails, such as trains or trolleys. The vehicles propulsion is provided by an engine, usually by an Internal Combustion Engine
