Multifunctional complex are being developed at 50 railways stations serving places of pilgrimage, industry and tourist interest. Station premises will provide rail user facility like shopping , food stall and restaurant , book stall PCO/STD/ISD/Fax booths etc.

Suburban rail

Many cities have their own dedicated suburban networks to cater to commuters. Currently, suburban networks operate in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune and Lucknow-Kanpur. Suburban trains that handle commuter traffic are mostly electric multiple units.
