What is the differential Count of WBC?


Definition: The counting of different types of white blood cells in a stained blood film to find out their percentage is called Differential Count of WBC.

Identification of WBC

Neutrophils
Features of Neutrophils:

Nucleus of neutrophils contains multiple lobes (3-5), connected by chromatin filaments Nuclear stain: Violet 50-70%

Lymphocytes
Features of Lymphocytes Nucleus: Rounded ( So no lobed) 20-40%

Monocyte

Features of Monocyte Nucleus: Kidney Shaped, Large 2-8%

Eosinophils
Features of Eosinophils: Nucleus: Bilobed (2-lobed)

Basophils
Features of Basophil Nucleus: Usually overlapped with granules Percentage: 0-1%
