He built one ...view moreDr. Richard Bowen is currently Director of The Southbank Business School, Member of the Board of Studies at Southbank Institute and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management. He built one of South Africa's largest privately owned direct marketing organisations having established some 1,200 individual business contracts, with operations in five countries. He has a PhD specialising in the development of metal based drugs for Chemotherapy and is an MBA Medalist (in Finance & HR/Director's Award). He holds 10 patents (provisional applications, country, international), has over 80 publications in international peer reviewed journals, conference proceedings & industry publications.
Prior to his current role in education, Dr. Richard Bowen held leadership positions as Head of the AngloGold, Harmony Gold, Goldfields joint venture, AuTEK Bio, Chief Scientist at Mintek, Head of Strategic Initiatives at BioPAD (now the Investment operative, the Technology Innovation Agency) & National Chair for the establishment and reform of South Africa’s specialist Bio - industry. He is currently based in Brisbane Australia with international professional networks established in Geneva, Heidelberg, Leiden, Edinburgh, Brussels, Johannesburg & Abuja as a result of working in these jurisdictions.
In education, Dr. Richard Bowen previously won the Queensland State Governments Award for Innovation for new approaches towards workforce development for the biotechnology industry. He was appointed Honorary Professorial Research Associate at WITS, Fellow of the Claude Harris Leon Foundation, the National Research Foundation and URC and Chaired the Queensland Pharmaceutical & Nutraceutical Industry Forum's Skills Working Group to drive productivity solutions for the sector.
He is a passionate advocate for Vocational Education & Training and firmly believes that the application of ‘best practice’ skills rather than acquired knowledge is the critical currency of workforce productivity.view less
